I don't like Doc. Didn't want to teach and his coaching was suspect. Only won 1 title with 3 hall of famers.
. This is why it pays to have a GM who's an **** and not overly loyal. One of the best things the truth did for us was with one of his dying breaths of greatness he sacrificed himself so that the future could be greener. As we draft jaylen brown, Marielle fultz, and ayton I can't help but just picture pp and kg and smile.

I never looked at it that Doc didn't want to teach --but that he agreed with PP and KG not Danny and wanted another year of pursuing the Title with his veterans.  I still consider what Danny did to Paul as disloyal to a player who gave his all for the franchise and wanted, and in my opinion, had earned the right to retire a Celtic.  Water under the bridge but I do not blame Doc but blame Danny- I would have liked to see what another year of a healthy KG, PP and Rajon core could have brought.

You are kidding right? You saw what another year could have done. You saw it in Brooklyn. They were cooked. The first part of your post is right on though. KG and PP laid the foundation for what the Celtics now are, you cannot look at this team and not thank KG and PP.

The only thing I saw in Brooklyn was that Brook Lopez, almost immediately  went down for the season and Deron Williams was a head case.  PP and KG held up their end and with the right surrounding cast would have been contenders.

In Boston, Rondo would have still been a head case, and didn't he go down to ACL injury? Boston still did not have a five. No, that run was done.

Whether the run was done or not we will never know--my point was Doc, KG and PP wanted, and I still say, had earned another shot--Danny could have gone to the market instead of the nuclear option.  Yes Danny got a lot for tossing our heroes-- but there is something to be said for loyalty.   Bill Russell brought home a championship, against all odds, well past his prime.
they had their last shot and went 41-40 and lost in the 1st round of the playoffs.

The caption for this thread is "Doc ditched us"--I am presenting an alternative view as to why Doc left.  Danny was probably right that PP and KG were cooked but he still tossed our heroes against their wishes.  I believe Doc disagreed with that action and tried to recreate a situation for PP and KG with the Clippers.  That turned out to be against league rules.  Look at Bill Russell's final season for the possibilities even if they are unlikely possibilities.

The only person you can say wanted to stay was KG, he also wanted to stay in Minny so that doesn't mean much. PP wanted to leave so badly that he admits that HE talked to KG an hour convincing him to go!

I absolutely did not want them to go and would have been happy watching them play here longer but I'm not working for a business, it's not my job to make money and put out an entertaining/winning product for more people than fans like us. Just because I'm happy to watch old heads play until they can't anymore, doesn't mean it's right for the Celtics. We can operate from the heart but that isn't Danny's job. You can all say what Redd would have done but how do you guys know he was ever being offered packages worth sending those guys out for, back then? BKN dropped faster than Danny ever thought they would but he knew there was a big chance for these last two picks to be excellent, he was right about 17, let's hope he is right about 18! It's not as if Danny made the decision on his own, the organization wanted it too or else they would have told him no! Maybe Redd should have packed those guys off, because maybe then the organization may have come away with other assets to build with instead of going through all the down years. It may not work out but if it doesn't, the organization will do what it does and ship him out for the next guy, then let's see people talk about loyalty.

It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

You realize (like someone else already mentioned) that Paul Pierce convinced KG to agree to the trade? Ainge put in the work to set up the trade, but he needed KG to agree because of the no-trade clause, and Paul Pierce was the one to convince KG to waive it. It was more like an agreement between Paul, KG and Danny/ownership to part ways than a traditional trade.

I'll always be grateful for what he did in leading us to the title in '08.

That being said, I did feel like he got too much of a pass from the fans and media at times here. With all the talent we had, there were so many 5 minute stretches even when the starters were in where we didn't get a single good shot. I realize the coach can't make shots for players, but he can make sure that they're at least taking/creating good shots. That was Doc's biggest flaw as a coach here, IMO.

Not sure we'll ever know all of the details surrounding his exit, as his side of the story and Danny's side of the story vary significantly. If Doc decided that he didn't have the patience/desire to help lead the rebuild, then that's his right, but it doesn't mean I have to root for him elsewhere.

Two playoff games that will haunt Celtics fans for a long time are Game 6 against the Lakers in 2010 when we just didn't show up, and Game 6 at home against the Heat in 2012 when we just didn't show up. Game 7 was a heartbreaker in both series, but we had the momentum and a great opportunity to close out each series in Game 6 but just didn't show up. The head coach deserves some of the blame for that.

While I love the job Stevens has done here thus far, he hasn't proven nearly as much in the playoffs as Doc did. Stevens obviously hasn't had the same roster at his disposal that Doc did, so I don't mean that as a criticism of Stevens. But I also think it's premature to be overly complimentary of the job Stevens has done until we see his team produce in the playoffs.

All of the Doc haters.

The man helped engineer The Boston Celtics turnaround as it's Coach during our Resurgent years. He managed egos (KG, Paul, Ray AND Rondo) and had perhaps his GREATEST performance as its coach in this pivotal Game 4

Additionally, these fans (and THIS tribute) seem to have a LOT of respect for Glenn Doc Rivers - as do I.

"This Starting Five (KG-Paul-Ray-Rondo-Perk) NEVER lost a series" - Glenn Doc Rivers, former Boston Celtics Coach.

We've GOT to let this past stuff go with Doc. He ALREADY did  MASSIVE rebuild in ORL and endured numerous injuries to two of the best players in the NBA at the time in Grant Hill AND Tracy Mcgrady.

Oh what could have been for ORL if his teams would've stayed healthy - even in BOS.

I don't blame him one bit for not wanting to stay in BOS for ANOTHER rebuild. Besides - everything worked out for the best in allowing this "unknown quantity" in Brad Stevens an opportunity.

Fast forward to now? I think it all worked out.

Again we need to let the past stuff go with Doc.

Amen
I would say, he should have won at least a second ring

And he would have...if not for KG's visit to Utah in 08-09 season :'(

This is nonsense. When he agreed to that 5 year BIG MONEY (I believe it was 5 years 35 million), it was with the understanding that would include a post 3 big rebuild. It's not like we sprang this on Doc out of nowhere. And then when it came for the rebuild, right at the start of his new big deal with us, he forced his way out like a diva. I really did like him when he was our coach and I don't dislike him as much as I used to for what he did, but it was still not cool. And for these reasons I completely disagree with your post that poor Doc already had done a rebuild let's not blame him for not wanting to do another (when he just got PAID BIG to do another rebuild!)

I have strong belief that is Danny who whisper in Doc's ears to leave (diplomatically firing him).
Danny didn't see Doc in the rebuild and already had visions on Stevens a couple of seasons before that. Don't hate on Doc, I believe he got manipulated here.
I like Doc to an extend. He has great qualities, but I'm sorry to say I prefer Pop, Stevens or Carlisle.
Plus being a coach AND a GM is counter productive. A coach wants to win at all cost. A GM is supposed to look at the future as well. It doesn't look like there is any future for the Clippers.
