I don't really want Butler. I suspect he'd clash with IT, and there are a lot of holes in his game.

I would do this trade without blinking.

Mind you I'm imagining we'd send them one of the BRK picks plus two other future 1sts as well.

That's what I assumed tbh. I mean they are trading a star away and would want a good haul they can bring back to their fanbase. I think this would be a fair offer. I'm a little worried about Butler though. Do we think he can score efficiently against the big boys like Cavs and Warriors?
CHI just beat CLE and Butler had 20 pts and 8 assists. I'm sure he'll be ok.

Eh, he was 7-20 and Kyrie was out. Same with Love. Wasn't really a true challenge imo.

Butler and Lopez for Bradley, Crowder, Amir, and some sort of picks?

I mean, I'd love to swap Crowder for Zeller in this package, but I'm doubtful it's going to work.

Keeping one of Bradley/Crowder would be ideal, but I'd be fine with this. I was off Butler this offseason, but he's truly elevated his game to a new level. He's clearly better than Paul George at this point, and I think most people would give up a godfather package for George.
Amir, Bradley/Crowder, Smart/Brown, (Young), picks

for

Butler, Lopez

Lots of ways to get it done. I wonder what response we'll get if we float it on a Bulls board.

I could live with any of these combinations.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

What holes?

The one thing we're forgetting is that Brooklyn pick is a swap. So let's say we trade it to the Bulls and they fall to the top ten in the draft. That pick to the Bulls then loses value because they would be basically swapping their top ten pick for a top 3 Nets pick. Just something to think about when it comes to value.

That's not how it works.

He's not a great outside shooter, and he needs the ball in his hands a lot.

Still, he gets to the line a ton, he's a really solid defender, he can rebound and pass.

Not a perfect fit with Isaiah, but I think Butler is about as good as the Celts are gonna do in terms of trading for a star who completes the group they've put together.

I think you need to have more than one guy who can take the ball and go get his when you're in the playoffs, anyway.  We don't need -- or want -- to have that 3rd star be a purely off-ball type of scorer.

I saw the other thread so nothing to be concerned about.

He can also score in the post which is useful in the midget era of basketball we are currently in. Just dump it to Butler in the 4th and get out of the way!

We dont trade the right to swap. We trade our own pick which has attached to it the right to switch it with Brooklyn.

ie.

If we trade Boston '17 to Chicago.

Chicago excersizes the right to swap.

Chicago makes the Bulls first round selection and the Nets first round selection.

Brooklyn makes the Celtics first round selection

The Celtics do not make a first round selection.

That's amazing. I don't understand why the Bulls wouldn't do this trade. They can tank and have two top ten picks.

I think people here are underselling a bit for what it'd take to get Butler. He's a legitimate top-10 player on a very good contract for three more years. He's also one of the few people in the league who can effectively slow down Lebron James, which is a pretty valuable characteristic.

It's hard to imagine a scenario where both the 2017 Brooklyn swap AND Brown are not included in any trade.

The only saving grace we might have is that the Bulls already have two young wings in McDermott and Valentine, not including adding Crowder, so they might prefer a guard in Smart or (more likely) Rozier, who they coveted in the 2015 draft anyways.

Was forgetting about that part. They also have Sacramento's pick if it's eleventh or higher, too.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
With all of this talk about a go-to all-star wing player and what it would likely take to acquire him, it really makes the decision between Hayward and Butler quite easy. If only we had a guarantee from Hayward...

I think Butler is a notch above Hayward. A really significant notch.
