I kinda want to keep Smart, since we are parting ways with Crowder, essentially, Butler would slide into the SF spot

I rather give them Bradley who is a better scorer than Smart so we can keep some sort of defensive guy in our lineup somehow

IT/Smart/Butler/Horford/Lopez is an amazing starting lineup and GREAT, sorry not great, but good counter to play against the Cavs, probably won't win a series but I do think this lineup can be superior to Toronto

And considering where that 1st rounder is going to be, too much.

It's a lot, to be sure, but not a single one of those pieces is guaranteed to be anywhere near as valuable as Butler.


Butler is:

- A borderline top 10 player
- 27 years old
- Making a little more than half what his market value would be if he were a FA this summer
- Under contract for 3 more seasons after this one

If the Bulls trade him, they will expect to get a ton.  You're getting a superstar two-way wing for 3.5 years of his prime.

And underrated aspect of this deal is that it gives you a chance to extend Bradley and Thomas if you would like, and still keep your best player.

I wouldn't include Brown in the trade. We need someone with upside. Think about it, each year Brown will get better along with our contending roster which will only improve us year over year without offseason acquisitions. It really benefited us when Rondo was improving. He made up for the veterans natural aging.

I think the deal would obviously be built around

Crowder/Bradley and Nets '17 for Butler + 1 of their bigs.

Now youd obviously have to add value to our side, but I dont see any deal that doesnt have those 4 elements included.

Id really like to see if we can keep Brown off the table.

Mind you I'm imagining we'd send them one of the BRK picks plus two other future 1sts as well.

Here's another question - would some type of market open up for the Nets pick if it becomes known that the Bulls and C's might be discussing a Butler for the pick and other assets swap? For example, would Sacramento or Indy throw an offer on the table at that point?

I don't think we'll convince any team to trade their star without including that pick that is burning a hole in our pockets.

That's what I assumed tbh. I mean they are trading a star away and would want a good haul they can bring back to their fanbase. I think this would be a fair offer. I'm a little worried about Butler though. Do we think he can score efficiently against the big boys like Cavs and Warriors?

That value is good. It's when we have to include Brown and the 2017 pick, or Crowder and Bradley, or Rozier and Smart, that I start to think it is too much.

Agreed.  I mean, I don't care if they want Rozier AND Smart.  Fine.  Backup points aren't that hard to find.

I want to keep Brown.  I really like the idea of developing him patiently.  I think he'll take some time to get there, but from what we've seen I think he'll be a really excellent wing piece in a few years.  His physical peak should coincide with the decline of Thomas / Butler / Horford, and we'd have whoever we get with the remaining BRK pick, as well.

CHI just beat CLE and Butler had 20 pts and 8 assists. I'm sure he'll be ok.

The one thing we're forgetting is that Brooklyn pick is a swap. So let's say we trade it to the Bulls and they fall to the top ten in the draft. That pick to the Bulls then loses value because they would be basically swapping their top ten pick for a top 3 Nets pick. Just something to think about when it comes to value.
