This deal makes no sense, to me.  Why sign Sully when you just drafted Poeltl and Siakam?

Most teams like having multiple good players at all positions, plus you're better off not feeling obligated to immediately put rookies into the rotation.

I was just trying to figure it out in terms of playing time.  I mean, obviously, Poeltl is coming off the bench, so then does Sully start with Valančiūnas and they have Siakam back up the 4 spot?  I just figured that lottery picks tend to play more, and Siakam can really help them, especially defensively, on the boards, and in transition.  He's got great speed with an outstanding motor, excellent lateral quickness and footwork owing to his growing up playing soccer, as well as some awesome, and quick, post moves with either hand along with a developing midrange/foul line jumper.

Honestly, I don't even know who the Raptors have for big guys, except for the ones I've mentioned.  I think the list has been posted by Pho in this thread, but I can't remember the names as of right now, lol.
Patterson will probably start at the 4 if not Demarre Carrol

Ah yes, TP, how could I ever forget the immortal Patrick Patterson (sarcasm), lol ::) ;D, although I thought that Carroll was a 3.  They haven't re-signed Scola, have they?  I just remember how the 4 spot was the one where they desperately needed an upgrade, iirc, why is why it was surprising, to me, that they elected to take Poeltl over Sabonis.

On the other hand, having Valančiūnas and Sabonis as your starters at the 5 and 4, respectively, probably would have left Toronto's paint more clogged than a Nerlens Noel toilet, lol ;D.
I think Toronto likes to split Carrolls minutes between the 3 and the 4 and yeah lol ill take my chances against Patrick Paterson. Although we will presumably be marching Amir out there in our starting lineup.

Oh sure, if they want to go small, absolutely, although who would be the 2 for them, since Derozan would move to the 3, I'm assuming - Powell?  Maybe.  I nearly forgot that Terrence Ross was still on their team, haha, and my favorite Patrick 'Not Ruben' Patterson story, aside from the fact that he still can't guard a 34 year old Joe Johnson, ahaha, is when Mannix was doing a broadcast in Scal's stead, I want to say 1-2 years ago, and on the topic of Patterson, Mike said that 'Brian Scalabrine loves Patterson.  He thinks he's a star' or something, and iirc, the next few seconds were...crickets.  Ahaha that was priceless ;D.

good move for raptors and celtics

raptors grab a solid backup PF who can rebound, pass out for fast break and only needs to play in spurts behind patterson

For celtics, we didnt have room for sully due to the addition of horford
This saved money
plus freed up playing time for mickey to develop
It also freed up playing time for jerebko and olynyk who fit better within our offense as they can shoot 3s

Only problem with not signing sully is we lose our best rebounder
hopefully the others can make up for the loss

That is weird for even 6mil we didn't want him. Something else has gotta be falling.

Or he just wore out his welcome here. I remembered reading something early last year that the C's brass didn't like that his father was so involved and he was kind of a handful for CBS. I'll try to find the link.

I mean, they literally staged an intervention last summer with him about his weight.  Clearly that didn't work.  So it's not surprising the team decided to move on.  Sully was shown the writing on the wall and he failed to make the drastic changes that were necessary to keep his job.  As a result, he missed out on what probably would have been the major payday of his career.

Instead of that payday, I have a feeling this one year deal for 6 million will be his last contract above the minimum before he washes out of the league a few years from now.

A huge waste of ability.

I agree. It doesn't bode well for his future that he couldn't secure a bigger payday at his age in this crazy market. Look at comparable talent: Trevor Booker got 2 years and $18m. Jon Leuer 4 years, $42m. Ian Mahinmi ended up with $64m over 4 years.

He had a more productive year than those guys last season, but couldn't cash in? That's a red flag.

I'm not so sure.

For all we know, Sully prioritized playing time, fit, playoffs, and the ability to hit the FA market again next season (when the cap goes up again) over a long-term deal.

First time the word "fit" has been used in connection with Sully? Eh... EHHHH... EHHH?!?!?!

Lucas made another point about he perhaps being glutton intolerant or something.

I suspect it has something to do with gluttony.

TP, how apropos.

I'll say it: Bargain of the offseason so far. Wish it weren't a division rival.
