on a serious note - good for sully! Happy that he's found a home in Toronto (if this is true). Wishing you all the best up North.
It's not a home yet, just a landing spot, but yeah good for him.

Guess I'm not all that savvy with trades, but why couldn't we have done a S&T and gotten some assets back?

Raptors probably could absorb the contract without making room. And we renounced him, so he was an UFA when he signed.
I mean, before we renounced him.  I guess this speaks to Sully's perceived value around the league.

Oh goody.  The one guy who actually rebounds.

Ya know what would be fun?  Having an actual solid team instead of revolving doors.

The Celtics are bringing everyone back besides 2 people. Are you new to the NBA? A few players leave every season it's impossible to keep everyone forever.

Since we don't have Curry, Lebron, Harden type players on this team I think keeping a tight knit core is the strength of this team. You can get away with moving every part except 1-2 players when you have a superstar but I think this benefits us.

Lose: Sully, Zeller, Turner
Gain: Hortford, Brown, (other rookies)
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Great signing by Toronto given the dollars getting tossed at mediocre talent this off season.  For one year there's no real downside for them.  If nothing else they should have a motivated Sully coming off the bench whenever they play the C's this season.

  • Peace it's a board. We all will never agree.
That is weird for even 6mil we didn't want him. Something else has gotta be falling.

Or he just wore out his welcome here. I remembered reading something early last year that the C's brass didn't like that his father was so involved and he was kind of a handful for CBS. I'll try to find the link.

I mean, they literally staged an intervention last summer with him about his weight.  Clearly that didn't work.  So it's not surprising the team decided to move on.  Sully was shown the writing on the wall and he failed to make the drastic changes that were necessary to keep his job.  As a result, he missed out on what probably would have been the major payday of his career.

Instead of that payday, I have a feeling this one year deal for 6 million will be his last contract above the minimum before he washes out of the league a few years from now.

A huge waste of ability.

I agree. It doesn't bode well for his future that he couldn't secure a bigger payday at his age in this crazy market. Look at comparable talent: Trevor Booker got 2 years and $18m. Jon Leuer 4 years, $42m. Ian Mahinmi ended up with $64m over 4 years.

He had a more productive year than those guys last season, but couldn't cash in? That's a red flag.

I'm not so sure.

For all we know, Sully prioritized playing time, fit, playoffs, and the ability to hit the FA market again next season (when the cap goes up again) over a long-term deal.
Look what bismack biyombo made after a great playoff perfromance. Sully can do the same. Great idea on his part.

So long fatso.

I won't miss his lack of effort and inability to stay in shape. I'll miss his rebounding though.

Well, Zeller is under a QO so far, so there's that.

Well, this is kind-of annoying. Not only do we lose Sully for nothing, but he signs for well below market value to our current biggest rival (besides Cle, who isn't our rival since they are so much better than we are).

We better be getting Griffin or Cousins because it would kind of suck to lose Sully so that we could keep Ben Bentil.

Right now, it's to keep Zeller's QO.

In future news, Jared Sullinger's 48 hour unexplained absence from the Raptors ended as he was pulled, disoriented and dehydrated, from a vat of poutine.

That is much worse than Ben Bentil.

I dunno - Sully strikes me as the type go all-in for the fries, cheese curds, and poutine/gravy.

Also, it's not clear to me if DeRozan signed his contract yet.  The Raps could have a little more than the MLE to give him, around $6 million.

Just patting myself on the back for getting that price correct.

A sign-and-trade requires a minimum deal of three years.  My guess is that Sully wants to hit the market again as an unrestricted free agent next year.
