I think your fooling yourself, if you think Ainge wanted to keep him. He had every chance to do so and did not. In the past two years there were incidents where either he got injured or declined during the season, Zeller is not the better player, but you can count on him to last the season and be ready when called upon.
I think this is a clear case of caveat emptor and not caveat venditor for us. I suspected him not to get a huge contract because I have never thought he was valued as much the fans here thought. I have a big advantage in that regard, I live in Cincinnati, outside the market. I watch my games on league pass and hear other teams input.
