Oh my God, Noel and Covington for a year of Teague would be such a bad trade.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

these days don't trades for allstars like Teague usually come with some under the table wink wink agreement to extend ?

I'd be beyond shocked if Teague agreed to extend unless Philly is planning on maxing him out.

Kind of hope they do this. I've been growing weary of an Okafor trade. I think we could do better.

Also in the grand scheme of the NBA Philly would get way better and probably give the Nets more ping pong balls.

I get it and I dont. Teague can just walk away from Philly after next season.

Is Noel a restricted FA after next season?
A really good PG goes a long way for a fledgling team.  If Teague goes to the sixers, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to see him back in the All-Star game.  If the Sixers have to pay Teague after next year (because he's first tier) is that a bad thing?

Guys on really, really bad teams tend to not make all star teams unless they are all out superstars.  Unless Teague can impact the team enough to make them a fringe playoff team, doubt he'd be considered.

Agreed. I'm not as high on Noel as some have been but a year of the 12th-15th best point guard for Covington and Noel is insane.

They might as well.  There's worse ways to get up to the salary floor than signing a 4 year for an in-prime borderline all-star PG.  Philly needs to spend money somehow.

Seems like all this rumor does is remind the league that Noel and Teague are both lame duck players who could be traded for. Both teams are fully screwed retaining them, unless something major changes.

If/when Millsap opts out next summer for one last big contract, Atlanta will have exactly ONE player under contract - Walter Tavares. If they pick up his $1M option.

Given a clean slate (maybe Millsap), and two free agents, are they going to pay Schroeder (23-27 year old years) or Teague (28-32 and unrestricted), to build around? 100% chance Teague is gone. Of course maybe they should keep Teague starting ahead of him one more year and keep this value down... except that'll just make him want to leave.

On the Philly side, Noel is good enough that he's going to get a ton of money next summer from someone. The alternative is to stay with the franchise that has treated him to like 200 losses in 3 years.

Come to think of it, maybe they make the deal because it accidentally tanks the value of both players on the open market =)

Maybe that's the intended message whoever leaked the rumor was trying to get out there.

We should start some sort of strategic trade rumor leaking service. Could be lucrative.

Philly fans are having a panic attack and obviously the conversation is focused on the perceived inevitability that Teague would flee after a single season (which I honestly don't buy... if that is a distinct possibility, Philly probably doesn't bother doing this)... but let's talk about how Teague would actually impact that roster.  They have been desperate for reliable guard play.  They have no shooters.  They were so deprived of a capable ball handler that Ish freakin Smith looked like a star on that team.

Teague made an all-star team when he was the floor general on a 60 win Hawks team in 2014-15.  Does he get any credit for that?

How much is the perception of him impacted by the fact that he only plays 28mpg with young Schroder primed to take more minutes from him?

I ask, because his per-36 is:  19.8 points, 7.5 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals with 45%/40%/84% shooting

Kyrie Irving's Per-36 was 22.5 points, 5.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 45%/32%/89%

Mike Conley's Per-36 was 17.5 points, 7 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals with 42%/36%/83% shooting.

Teague's per minute EFF placed him right under Kyrie and right above Conley.

In 2014-15, his PER was 7th amongst PG's between Damian Lillard and John Wall.

The question is, would Teague solve problems in Philly?  He shot 40% from three.  He's been the primary ball handler on a pretty successful Hawks team.  If he got a boost in minutes, do you think he's per-36 numbers are within reach on a Philly team?  Also consider the follow-up possibilities... say they take Simmons.  Say they trade Okafor for #3 and take a much-needed shooter like Hield.  Say Embiid is healthy.  Does that give them decent inside/outside offensive options?  What if they continue to trade for vet?  There's been some reports that the Bulls are interested in Okafor - what if Philly builds a package around Okafor for Jimmy Butler?   Could that team start to be enticing for free agents if they had a couple established players on it like Teague?

Who knows if it will even happen.  I can see the logic in it, though.

Maybe Atlanta loses Horford and the Hawks go all-in on a full rebuild, then Ainge can empty the cupboard in a three-way trade that nets Millsap and Noel.  This would happen after Horford signs elsewhere, so the Celtics would have used #3, although they could still trade draft rights.
