Philly fans are having a panic attack and obviously the conversation is focused on the perceived inevitability that Teague would flee after a single season (which I honestly don't buy... if that is a distinct possibility, Philly probably doesn't bother doing this)... but let's talk about how Teague would actually impact that roster. They have been desperate for reliable guard play. They have no shooters. They were so deprived of a capable ball handler that Ish freakin Smith looked like a star on that team.
Teague made an all-star team when he was the floor general on a 60 win Hawks team in 2014-15. Does he get any credit for that?
How much is the perception of him impacted by the fact that he only plays 28mpg with young Schroder primed to take more minutes from him?
I ask, because his per-36 is: 19.8 points, 7.5 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 steals with 45%/40%/84% shooting
Kyrie Irving's Per-36 was 22.5 points, 5.4 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 45%/32%/89%
Mike Conley's Per-36 was 17.5 points, 7 assists, 3.4 rebounds, 1.4 steals with 42%/36%/83% shooting.
Teague's per minute EFF placed him right under Kyrie and right above Conley.
In 2014-15, his PER was 7th amongst PG's between Damian Lillard and John Wall.
The question is, would Teague solve problems in Philly? He shot 40% from three. He's been the primary ball handler on a pretty successful Hawks team. If he got a boost in minutes, do you think he's per-36 numbers are within reach on a Philly team? Also consider the follow-up possibilities... say they take Simmons. Say they trade Okafor for #3 and take a much-needed shooter like Hield. Say Embiid is healthy. Does that give them decent inside/outside offensive options? What if they continue to trade for vet? There's been some reports that the Bulls are interested in Okafor - what if Philly builds a package around Okafor for Jimmy Butler? Could that team start to be enticing for free agents if they had a couple established players on it like Teague?
Who knows if it will even happen. I can see the logic in it, though.
