I thought LB's definition of in their prime was a player between 23 and 25? Now a 27 year old Teague is in his prime. Interesting
?

I said that NBA players tend to make their most dramatic improvements statistically before the age of 23.   Obviously it's well known their "prime" is 27 years old.

You're talking about two different things.   You see guys like LeBron, Durant, etc make leaps before the age 23.  It's rare to see them make leaps after 23.   They still, obviously, improve throughout their 20s:  http://wagesofwins.com/nba-players-age-like-milk/

Fair to say you overvalued those assets?
When?  When I suggested they could trade Noel for Teague months ago?  Seems like I properly valued those assets based on this rumor.

Fair to say you undervalued those assets when you suggested it's impossible for Philly to improve their roster balance by trading guys like Noel?  So far, yes.

How many PG's would you take ahead of Teague? That position is absolutely loaded across the league, so in essence they spent 4 years developing a player, who actually didn't improve much if at all, and traded him for a player that would be a backup PG on about half the teams in the league and could easily be a rental. Shrewd. Very shrewd.

Teague is totally the type of player that would make sense in Philly.  There's fair points about needing to give him a max contract a year from now to stay.  That'd be interesting, but Philly needs to spend money somewhere and Noel's on the final year of his rookie deal (as folks love to keep pointing out).

Meh.  Let's see what happens.  No point in having an opinion on it yet when we don't know the following.

#1 - If this will even happen.
#2 - What else Philly would give up (or vice versa)
#3 - What Philly intends to do with their other assets
#4 - How Philly would address the contract situation.

Should be interesting, though.  I knew Philly would be one of the most fascinating teams this Summer and so far that's been the case.

Contract aside, do you think Jeff Teague has more or less trade value than Marcus Smart?

Not sure how I feel about this trade, but I do know a couple things:

1) People LOVE to overvalue our assets
2) People love to undervalue assets around the league.

I think I remember Zach Lowe talking about this at the trade deadline. He grouped Celtics fans as 'crazy' for thinking we could get Blake Griffin without giving up real assets.

Also Eddie, the fact that the PG position is overloaded in the NBA with quality options like Teague is exactly why it made logical sense to draft Okafor in spite of having Embiid and Noel.   Philly knew that when they were ready to move bigs, they'd be able to trade one for a star-caliber point guard since great big man prospects are a lot more rare than great guard prospects.  If this rumor is accurate, it would suggest it's true.   Noel's a one-way player... but if he nets them a 27 year old 1-time all-star PG, it vindicates Philly for taking the best player available with no concern for the short-term.

I've frequently said that next year I expect 4-5 of Philly's top 6 players to be guys who didn't suit up for them this year.   It will be an entirely different team.  The past will be in the past.  The 10 win team will have no relevance to the roster they put out there next season.   Should be super interesting to see what they do with all these valuable assets.

I think Teague is one hell of a hall for Noel and of course there is risk on both sides. If I was a Philly fan this to me would be a very clear sign from management winning now matters here.

For Philly will Teague stick around after 2017?
For Atlanta will Noel grow his game?

This deal on the surface looks pretty good for both teams. Atlanta have been wanting to hand the keys over all season and Philly had a ton of bigs to give up for a legit floor general.
ok fine

Thank goodness. Didn't want us overpaying for Noel.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about

I don't know about Horford but I think that would mean that Okafor is not an option to the Cs.

That is exactly what it means.  Bad news for Boston.  Okafor is more talented than any big we have on our roster, or rather any two of our bigs.  But Jeff Teague is one player that Boston struggles with in Atlanta. I would think Atlanta expects to lose Horford if they are making a move for Noel.

It would be a smart move for both teams.  Also if you consider that no team has more cap space than Philly and bringing in Teague would set the perception for free agents that they are in "win-now" mode.  It might even intrigue a Derozan type into coming on board.   Could get super interesting if Philly starts shopping the top pick or Okafor for a guy like Butler.

If this happens...I guess Philly won't be trying to get Dunn in the draft with a trade, like a lot of people suggested.

All Star PG for a player who may or may not ever be a starter.  Sweet deal for Philly.

I get it and I dont. Teague can just walk away from Philly after next season.

Is Noel a restricted FA after next season?

For a laugh, check out the 76ers subreddit... they are having a meltdown over this rumor:  https://www.reddit.com/r/sixers

A really good PG goes a long way for a fledgling team.  If Teague goes to the sixers, I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised to see him back in the All-Star game.  If the Sixers have to pay Teague after next year (because he's first tier) is that a bad thing?
