Can he finally make a turn to the top of will it just be like this forever? Does anyone think he can make this year happen? If he does, he could really fill a need :) ah I hope the gods of basketball can help him xD what do we do with him though if he does improve that much?

Not in my opinion, he has had so many opportunities to show his potential and has even struggled in the D-League.

Given how many picks we have in the upcoming draft, I'd say Ainge will cut him if he builds a contender or we pick a prospect like Maker, in these incidents I'm sure Young will be cut.

I disagree. Cutting our whipping boy and drafting another seem unproductive. I say let's keep Young, then add Maker and Bender.
That way, the whipping gets distributed all around.

Seriously though, i think Young still has this year to "PROVE IT". We can only afford so many roster spots for projects.

EDIT: He's younger than most prospects coming out this year, too.

Anyway, with all the picks coming here I could only imagine the pressure he has on his back. It's up to him , Brad, and Danny now.

He has a team option on the contract right? Did we exercise that yet?

The Celtics exercised their third-year option on Young last October.  They have until the end of this October to exercise his fourth-year option for 2017-2018.

Let's have a legitimate competition for the last few roster spots between Young, Mickey, Hunter, some second-round picks, and a few D-Leaguers.

Mikey, and Roz looked good this Year. Let's hope Young and Hunter become the marksmen we need. Next year. The roster logjams give me headaches.

James Young is just the latest example of how Ainge's drafting acumen is wildly overrated on this board.

Bust.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Drafting is the hardest part of the job IMO every team misses. It would help if the NBA raised the age limit, I'd like to see it at 21.

I was disappointed Young's option was picked up last October.  I will be disappointed if Young is taking up cap room better spent on free agents this summer.  I will be very disappointed if he's on the roster in November, and I will be angry if his fourth year option is picked up.

I'm not mad he was picked.  He was a risk with potential reward, and it didn't work out.  Partly due to the player, and partly due to circumstance.  When he was picked, I don't think Ainge had a reasonable expectation that the Celtics were going to be a playoff contender that season, thus keeping Young off the court so much.  He was someone who was raw, and who was going to need time, and by the time he got healthy, he found he was on a team that couldn't afford to give him time.  Furthermore, since Young was picked, we've managed to acquire four additional picks in this draft (we actually acquired five but we already traded one away for IT), creating a roster crunch that further necessitates Young's movement off the roster.

While I would be thrilled to find Young still had trade value, and could be packaged on draft night to acquire talent, I expect that we will have to send a later second-round pick with him, hopefully in the 50s.

Lol he was considered a good pick by many, just because someone doesnt pan out it means Ainge is a bad drafter.

Funny an arrogant statement like this comes from someone who has defended Michael Beasley repeatedly. If you need an example of a bust, Beasley is a good one.

If Danny Ainge drafts Bender then I lose all respect for him as a drafter. Danny has got to get it right this time and acquiring Buddy Heild will give him his respect around the league as a great GM. He clearly missed on Young and Smart. Buddy Heild is the guy you want Danny 👍

I don't see Marcus Smart as an all star in this league. I'm not saying the kid is a terrible player but he is a liability on offense and I don't ever see that changing. We need to trade Smart asap

I don't think cap space is the issue.  It will come down to roster spots.  I would keep Young over Hunter but Young is pretty near the bottom of the list.

If we are able to convince two max free agents to sign here, it very much will be a cap space issue.  Heck, even if we only get one, that cap space still matters.  It could be the difference in keeping Amir or not, for instance.
