Ainge is a good trader but terrible at drafting.  Young is a bust.  Here's the bottom line...either you can freakin play the game of basketball or you can't.  James young cannot.  Goodbye!

Okay that is just absurd. I really hope you are just a troll.

But, I feel like to understand James Young we should look to Buddy Heild. The guy was a mildly successful college player his first few seasons and as he matured he worked himself into a solid player, and now a top 10 pick. James Young has a similar game and is clearly the type of guy who needs to develop. We always knew that. I'm not saying he doesn't drive me crazy, but he can certainly play basketball or he wouldn't be here. Opposite of what the poster I responded to said. The question is if he can develop some maturity that will lead him to professional success. The part that makes me most curious is why people hate him so much. He hasn't done anything, it would be nice if he would do more. But he has all the skills. I wonder if he was in a similar situation to a guy like Alan Crabbe if he wouldn't be a better player.
2019 Historical Draft - Golden State

C - Bill Russell/Joel Embiid
PF - Giannis Antetokounmpo/Tommy Heinsohn
SF - Kevin Durant/Billy Cunningham
SG - Bruce Bowen/David Thompson
PG - Isiah Thomas/James Harden

If Danny Ainge drafts Bender then I lose all respect for him as a drafter. Danny has got to get it right this time and acquiring Buddy Heild will give him his respect around the league as a great GM. He clearly missed on Young and Smart. Buddy Heild is the guy you want Danny 👍

Missed on Smart?  Don't know if you're serious, but.... :o  ???

I don't see Marcus Smart as an all star in this league. I'm not saying the kid is a terrible player but he is a liability on offense and I don't ever see that changing. We need to trade Smart asap

so whos the all star that was available that Ainge missed out on?  Or are you criticizing Ainge for not taking a player that doesnt exist?

This should be good

I go back and forth on Young.  It's disappointing to see him not be able to crack the rotation but we have to remember that he's still one of the youngest players in the league and his jumpshot is a thing of beauty.  The Gerald Green comparison seems to fit but I hope he figures it out before him.

I'd like to see us continue to be patient with him because of his youth and smooth shooting mechanics.  The posters calling for/predicting his release clearly do not know how the NBA works.  Extremely rare for first-round picks on their rookie deals to be released and even if that were to happen, it would not clear cap space for this summer.

Even more rare is a team with three first round draft picks and cap space.
Young won't be here next year.

lol "we need to trade smart ASAP" that  implies Marcus Smart has like a toxic effect on the team.

James Young is just the latest example of how Ainge's drafting acumen is wildly overrated on this board.

Bust.
This post is wildly overrated.  Not a great acumen.  Bust.

I agree with JBP. It makes zero logic to cut James Young. When you look at this with zero bias and emotion then it makes much more sense to keep Young.

IMO many on here think he is mostly a 3, that is incorrect. He can play 3 and will have to in rotations and depending who is on the floor, but he is the absolute most effective at the 2.

In all honesty I believe it is a mental thing with him. In the D-League he shoots the 3 every way imaginable with a large clip and great %. BUT whenever he plays for us he is missing wide open 3's and has overall shot the 3 at a bad % Just in that regard I find hope because the 3 in the d-league is the same distance in the NBA, and he has the length(wingspan/standing reach) , perfect stroke with high release, and athleticism to get his shot off.

Also, many of our favorite 2's/3's stayed in college and took a few years in the pro's to make an impact.

I kinda believe if he got the minutes he would have come around to being SOMETIMES effective and having a couple really productive games because he nailed like 4 or 5 shots. I would sacrafice playoffs for more minutes for Rozier, and young to build them up though and see what we have. Not a popular opinion I know.

And to understand both of them we should perhaps look at JR Giddens.

It is probably right that you pretty much either can play in the NBA or you can't. If you can, it's visible early on even for young players that are not able to pull regular rotation minutes.

Everything I know about Young suggests he is unlikely to improve much in the third year.

They will either cut him or keep him to the roster for one more year (for the  1% chance he puns out well) depending on what kind (and how many) players we draft this year.

At this stage, I am more interested at the colour of CBS's shirt at interviews than Young.

I have faith in Danny and CBS. Young's inability to get time this year is a testament to CBS ability to coach up players like crowder, ET and IT and not necessarily simply because he "sucks" . CBS himself said Young has improved drastically. The only time you give up on young is when he stops improving, because his ceiling is still ridiculously high.

How likely is Young to make the team this year? Is that likelihood greater or less than 50%?

Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, no way bye bye.

Honestly, I have seen nothing from Young that could or should make me excited about his third year. The guy struggled in the D-League last year, which isn't a good sign in regards to his progression. I don't know how many chances he should get, but it will be exciting to see what Ainge decides to do.

I have already invested too much of my time and emotions in James and he seems nowere near the player he should be. He acts like rock and roll or a pop star, care only about his style, hair and his outfit... So no, trade him if there is still some interest around the league (hope so)...

This is hopeful, have we got a source?
