I go back and forth on Young. It's disappointing to see him not be able to crack the rotation but we have to remember that he's still one of the youngest players in the league and his jumpshot is a thing of beauty. The Gerald Green comparison seems to fit but I hope he figures it out before him.
I'd like to see us continue to be patient with him because of his youth and smooth shooting mechanics. The posters calling for/predicting his release clearly do not know how the NBA works. Extremely rare for first-round picks on their rookie deals to be released and even if that were to happen, it would not clear cap space for this summer.
Even more rare is a team with three first round draft picks and cap space.
Young won't be here next year.
I agree with JBP. It makes zero logic to cut James Young. When you look at this with zero bias and emotion then it makes much more sense to keep Young.
IMO many on here think he is mostly a 3, that is incorrect. He can play 3 and will have to in rotations and depending who is on the floor, but he is the absolute most effective at the 2.
In all honesty I believe it is a mental thing with him.
In the D-League he shoots the 3 every way imaginable with a large clip and great %. BUT whenever he plays for us he is missing wide open 3's and has overall shot the 3 at a bad % Just in that regard I find hope because the 3 in the d-league is the same distance in the NBA, and he has the length(wingspan/standing reach) , perfect stroke with high release, and athleticism to get his shot off.
Also, many of our favorite 2's/3's stayed in college and took a few years in the pro's to make an impact.
