I picture Brad Stevens as the Hypnotoad (All Glory to the Hypno...) and Danny Ainge as the immortal head in a glass as he solidifies his claim on the BEST GM EVER slot by not drafting ANOTHER FREEKING COMBO GUARD WHO CANT SHOOT.

In all seriousness, I'm really excited about having Bender on our team. Lots of people seem down and out about the pick, but I think it's gonna work out just fine.

(Please keep the Bender-bashing out of this thread, there are tons of other threads where people bash Bender. I realize that I'm in the minority here. I'm just happy we're not picking 4th,5th, or 6th.)
My biases, in order of fervor:
Pro:
Smart, Brown, Hayward, Tatum, Kemba, Grant Williams, Sleepy Williams, Edwards!

Anti:
Kanter, Semi, Theis, Poierier

A cross between Tyler Zeller and Jonas Jerebko?

Andrew Kirilenko with a better jumpshot and a decent handle?

A taller Mirotic without the beard?

A guy with an awesome name and sharp facial features?

Sounds alright to me.

Just don't mention Jan Vesely or Andrea Bargnani.

But seriously, Ainge is gonna reach for Jaylen Brown after failing to trade for Jimmy Butler and I'm gonna break my hand in the aftermath.

Hey, Andrei Kirilenko, in his prime with a jump shot is an upper echelon player. I'd take that.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
How are we supposed to keep Bender-bashing to a minimum when the first thing you say is how you would love Bender on our team. Certainly not everybody will agree.

I would be ecstatic if Bender came in and tore it up with his workouts, but that is being very hopeful. I think the most likely selection (if we keep it) is Murray. He is the best combination of age, offense, proven ability, and potential.

Serge Ibaka with better offense?

Imagine if AK were drafted ten years later.

Sounds alright to me.

I think that'd be a really potent combination. I think if Jerebko had better measurements he'd be exponentially better. Bender is 18 and will grow into his frame. Jerebko was drafted at 21. The years 18 to 21 are HUGE for developing muscle and mass.

Conversely, I think if Zeller had Jerebko's Mayhem-Muppet attitude, defensive switch-ability, and a 3 point shot, I'd be able to stomach him playing for the Celtics. Hell. I think I'd like that a lot.

Most of the weaknesses in Bender's game can be attributed to him being 18 and playing against grown men. Sure he's gonna get moved around for now, but take it from someone who got moved around for years--when you fill in and can move other people back, you never let go of that advantage.

Additionally, I'd love to see how Brad Stevens can mold a 7'1 18 year old. Bender is the ultimate build your own player. Brad Stevens was brought on to shape our young guys. Bender can already run and play in transition, play solid defense, and hit the three. I want to see where this goes.

I'm with you on this. I like Brown at #7 or #8, not so much at #3.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Guaranteed, will happen.
I'm in too.
I could very well see the Hawks... starting Taurean Prince at the 3, who is already better than Crowder, imo.

you vs. the guy she tells you not to worry about
