A cross between Tyler Zeller and Jonas Jerebko?
[...]
Sounds alright to me.
I think that'd be a really potent combination. I think if Jerebko had better measurements he'd be exponentially better. Bender is 18 and will grow into his frame. Jerebko was drafted at 21. The years 18 to 21 are HUGE for developing muscle and mass.
Conversely, I think if Zeller had Jerebko's Mayhem-Muppet attitude, defensive switch-ability, and a 3 point shot, I'd be able to stomach him playing for the Celtics. Hell. I think I'd like that a lot.
Most of the weaknesses in Bender's game can be attributed to him being 18 and playing against grown men. Sure he's gonna get moved around for now, but take it from someone who got moved around for years--when you fill in and can move other people back, you never let go of that advantage.
Additionally, I'd love to see how Brad Stevens can mold a 7'1 18 year old. Bender is the ultimate build your own player. Brad Stevens was brought on to shape our young guys. Bender can already run and play in transition, play solid defense, and hit the three. I want to see where this goes.
