In the near term the only relevant question for the Kings is "Who's more replaceable, George Karl or DeMarcus Cousins?"

The answer is obvious.

knowing the Kings front office though, they will probably replace Karl with someone like Mike Brown

I will go out on a limb and say I doubt Cousins has ever woken up one morning thinking "Man, if only I were in Boston with the Cs today. Could go grab some chowder and a BL with KO."

You might be surprised.

If I put myself in DMC's shoes and had just spent the first 5 years of my career playing for the implosive disaster that is the Sacramento Kings, then there would only be two things I would really care about when choosing the next team:

1) Stable management / coaching
2) A competitive group of guys who are hard working and want to win

Boston would certainly be up around the top of that list.

Yeah, meant as more of a joke. I mean I doubt he's given it thought, but I also don't think he'd be unhappy in Boston -- heck, he liked being in Sac.

Imagine trade discussions would open his eyes to a ton of exciting possibilities, but IIRC, he doesn't have a no-trade clause ... so Kings would shop for their best offer w/out concern for his preferred destination(s).

It does take a certain kind of guy to flip out on head coach like that, though. Something to consider, at the very least, if for no other reason than his price.

My views on player conduct is no matter how a player feels you should respect your coach. If you are having issues be calm and respectful about it. If very mad go vent in the bathroom or locker room don't show a guy up who is suppose to be the boss. I like Cousins but he needs to be more in control. In this situation notify the GM that you are having troubles with the coach. At least that way a meeting can be made and problems can be handled  without effecting the team. If management doesn't help then request a trade privately. But don't argue with him in front of anyone sends a bad message.

I tend to agree, and I don't think there is any question that Cousins could probably have handled the situation in a more civilized way.

But that said, people are not perfect and we all lose our cool sometimes.  What's important is how you handle yourself after the event.  We don't know the situation closely enough to know how it went down exactly.  He may well have apologized afterwards, we don't know.

Kings management do know what went down however, and they seem to be much concerned about Karl than they are about Cousins.  If they felt that Cousins' reaction was uncalled for then I am sure they would have reprimanded him accordingly.  It doesn't seem like they have done that, which leads me to believe that whatever Karl did to upset Cousins was significant enough to make such a reaction justifiable (or at least understandable).

I'm sure Divac probably spoke to Cousins, and I'm sure they probably said something along the lines of "I understand why you're upset and you're right, but you could have made your point in a better way".  I'm sure Cousin's response was along the lines of "I know and I'm sorry, I was just very frustrated and I lost my cool".  Divac probably gave him a stern talking to, but then let him off with the understanding that he had a legit reason for getting so angry.

Of course this is all speculation, but this is the idea I get from all I'm reading about the situation.  For a player to lose it at a coach like that in front of all his teammates is quite a drastic reaction, and you would think it would take a lot...even for somebody as emotional as Cousins.  For management to then allow a reaction like that to go unpunished is really quite unusual.  For management to then respond by going to the players and asking them "how would you like me to deal with (coach)?" would be completely unheard of.

When you look at all the events that have reportedly taken place here, it immediately gives off the impression that Karl must have done something pretty wrong.  No other explanation fits here, especially given Karl's history.

Ha TP. Maybe someone can try Tim Floyd in the NBA again!  Or what is Isiah Thomas doing these days?  David Khan knows basketball, has he tried coaching before?  Maybe nows the time!

I guess George Karl might be the next coach to leave sac town

I'm thinking the next coach would be a former nba player with proven coaching exp

I'm amazed that he continues to pull these immature moves.
I'd love him on our team but there's a big question of whether or not this guy would change for the better in our locker room with guys like Smart, Crowder, Bradley, Lee, Amir etc.. or if he'd just lash out and whine and b!tch out when he gets less touches or is asked to do things he doesn't agree with by our coach.

Big worry for me.

At least his baby behavior keeps driving his trade price down.

Karl sucks. He's a terrible coach at this stage who has a huge ego.

Sorry Roy, minus 1 TP.  I was disappointed in your post.

George Karl knows basketball. Hence he is 7th overall on the all time win list.
1144 wins.  .594 win percentage.

He wouldn't be my playoff coach- he struggles to make playoff adjustments. He probably does have a huge ego.  We need to examine NBA Players lack of professionalism- players really are poorly behaved.  Boogie has always been coddled by management- which is why he continues to have these problems.

Don't think your commentary was fair.

in this league you should side with the players and worry about finding a coach that can coach the stars later.

as far as karl goes, he's horrible imo. the last thing I want is a guy that can win a lot of games but is guaranteed to lose in the playoffs.

  • Yup
P.s.

Just on a side note - Cousins is shooting 4/5 from three so far today, and IIRC he also hit 4 threes in Sacramento's first game this season.

If Cousins adds a legitimate three point shot to his arsenal then wholy smokes...he could very easily become the most dominant offensive big since i don't even know who.

That's almost like Shaq with a three point shot.  The thought is frightening!
I think Shaq would have been a lesser player if he had a 3 point shot.  He wouldn't have been Shaq, that's for sure.
those would have been some butt ugly 3's!
Yup

No. That's what's wrong with the NBA. It's not about indulging immature tantrum throwing athletes.
It's about educating them. About- Finances. Drugs. Work Ethic. And most importantly EQ- Emotional Intelligence.

Too many athletes have lost their careers due to people enabling bad decision making, because they can put a piece of leather in a round cylinder.

This isn't about Karl vs Boogie.
This is about doing the right thing the right way.

I just cant believe a player would do this after 8 games...
Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. is he thinking?
Surely there's some kind of back story here and he thinks Karl has a vendetta or something.

If he was just angry that they lost, then acquiring this guy becomes genuinely questionable.

We are 8 games into the season for God's sake.
Do we want a player like this around our young core, making it all about him and his anger issues?

I mean, Karl made multiple attempts last spring to convince the Kings to trade Cousins, merely weeks after he took the job.  I think the backstory is pretty clear here.

Before Karl officially started a game, Karl said Cousins should be traded, and went behind his back multiple times...

Are you seriously telling me if you were at a job, and your boss secretly was trying to find a way or excuse to fire you, that you would be pleased about it? Cousins has had every right to be frustrated with this organization.

Think about how lottery picks they have had, and chances of coming back to shell out assets for them, and getting zilch in return. The Kings are a dysfunctional franchise, and honestly I don't see DMC having the patience or even any more loyalty in him to stay once his contract ends.

The Kings should just trade Cousins & Rondo to the Lakers for Hibbert, Randle, & Russell.  Maybe some other young pieces or 1st's involved (Rondo can't be traded until Dec.).  I think that would get the Lakers a real shot in Kobe's last year plus a centerpiece to build around.  The Kings get 2 young prospects and a respectable center on an expiring contract.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
