If we believe the rumors that Vivek is simply in love with John Calipari, I don't expect there to be a chance that Cousins is traded until the Kings have had a chance to make another run at hiring Calipari next off-season.

But what would Calipari do with his illegal compensation enterprise? Just leave it behind?!

Well, I'm sure when the NCAA is knocking on his door again in due time, he'll be disappearing real quick.

Cedric Maxwell: "I wouldn't give you a bag of donuts for DeMarcus Cousins"

http://www.csnne.com/boston-celtics/maxwell-wouldn-t-give-you-bag-donuts-cousins

Ha, he's not a fan.  He starts talking about it at around 2:50 and the second Dickerson brings up the Kings, Maxwell just starts cracking up

there is no way I am giving up a top 3 Brooklyn pick this year , or multiple Brooklyn picks . Especially when he could walk in 2 years , and we are left with nothing .

We can just sign him in 2 years if he really wants to be here .

Anyone see Cousins at the start of the Detroit game in Sacto when George Karl was giving everyone the pep talk and going over their key to the game on the bench?

Cousins completely uninterested and not making eye contact with Karl and knows cameras are watching.

This could be a showdown/standoff that Karl refuses to give in to.
He ain't quitting and walking away from $15 million, and he ain't going stop trying to get Cousins traded so he can grow this team the way he wants. Surely he's thinking that Cousins could get them a top 3 pick. If Karl hangs in there we may just see Boogie completely freak out and demand a trade....
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

side note...

Same game vs Detroit/Drummond. Cousins has 33 points 9 rebounds.
Why does he have to be so good?

Another reason not to trade all the Nets picks, future trades if other stars or top players become available.  (especially if the Celtics trade for Cousins)

One Net pick, one Celtics pick, a couple of 2nd round picks and two you players where the Celtics have two who play the same position.

All the Nets picks? No chance. Ainge knows he has the best leverage in he marketplace -- no need.

Obviously the Kings would want the Nets' pick.  It might actually come down to that.  But given how messed up things are with the Kings, I think we'd all like to see Danny take advantage of that situation and not give in on that.

That said, for all the drama, Cousins is a pretty amazing player and I'd be willing to give up pretty much anyone and everything but Smart and the 2016 Nets pick to get him.  I'd be willing to give up the Dallas pick, later Nets picks, and pretty much anyone else on the team.

I think its interesting that many Csbloggers call Marcus Smart a deal breaker in so many trade scenarios. I very much like Smart, but i think these are some highly rose colored glasses.

I agree.  I'd give him up still.  I just think that the Cousins situation is becoming so toxic that I'd try to avoid it.

If this was Cousins minus the drama, I'd consider giving up Smart and the Nets' pick.  But if Cousins might potentially be a locker room cancer forever, then he's not worth giving up pieces like that.  This isn't like the KG situation where he was just interested in moving on or even Carmelo where he might just not be the guy to build a franchise around.  This is Cousins actively looking to undermine his coach and blow up the situation in Sacramento.  And as a consequence, the Kings should have to trade him at a pretty big discount.

If we're talking about the Brooklyn picks, I don't see how the Kings don't demand the 2016 pick (in addition to whatever else they're going to ask for). The 2018 pick is still 2.5 years away (time value of draft pick) and, given how bad they will be without DC, the Kings won't value the 2017 nearly as high as we think that it's worth.

Sure. I'm not eager to give him up, but he's overrated on this board because of his tenacious defense and general b*lls.

They should have never fired Mike Malone.

No doubt.

It was a bad move that presumably, at this point, they regret strongly.
