Danny Ainge is on the verge of getting us home court in the first round, a perfect "tank," a solid bevy of mid-range draft picks and enough cap room to pursue anyone we feel like pursuing....ALL IN THE SAME SEASON.

Seriously, people. Give it up for the best GM in the business.
Buford disagrees.

they are both very good and I really like Buford's drafting record;  but Buford took a club that had recently won a championship (1999) had a great coach and a top 5 player. Ainge had much less to start with.

I won't argue with anyone who picks Buford, but I'll say that I used to view Buford as better than DA but have switched, for exactly the reason you mention.

Either way it's a nice argument to have.

Especially when our division rivals are in such a state that the fans of one are lamenting the loss of a GM that brought them almost 50 wins...in three years, while fans of the other are reduced to raving about groundbreaking moves like dropping Andrea Bargnani and signing an okay D-leaguer. Oh, and another division rival is strongly considering keeping Kurt Rambis to coach.
"But man is not made for defeat. Man can be destroyed but not defeated."

Can we still untie and get sole procession of third pick somehow ?
Can't get 3rd pick until the lottery happens.
the Suns won their game against the Pelicans so if Brooklyn loses all the remaining games we ll be third (regardless of what the Suns do).

Guava's point is that we have the third best lottery odds right now, not the #3 pick. Some fans might not know the difference.

More good news. Cousins said he isn't playing the last two games of the season.

One of those games is against Phoenix. Given their recent surge of confidence, I wouldn't be surprised if Phoenix win. Hopefully Sacramento just go ahead and rest Rondo and Gay too. Although Rondo's rested two straight.

LOL ... In other words we are still in play for Simmons .   The lakers bloggers would cut their throats if our pick landed before them . :D

He is busy packing his bags , when we win the lottery and trade the pick to the Kings.

Great win by PHO last night, but we really ought to NOT get too excited yet. The Nets play the Pacers today (they should lose, but the Pacers choked to them just a couple weeks ago), and then play their last two games at home (where they are much better) against teams that have nothing to play for - vs. WAS and vs. TOR.

I also believe the Nets will not want to go into the offseason with a long losing streak, and therefore I believe they will win at least 1 of their last 2 games (and wouldn't be overly shocked if they won them both).

THEREFORE, I truly and sincerely believe the Suns must win at least 1 of their last 2 games, which is obviously not a given.

Fingers crossed!

I don't see any way the Pacers lose at home to Brooklyn while they're still trying to secure a 7 seed. The Washington game I'll give you.

On the other hand, Phoenix has 2 home games left against Sacramento and the Clippers who will surely be resting as they're not moving out of 4th.

I like our chances

It's way more than "in play."

If we get the 3rd slot we have just as good a chance at #1 as #3. In fact we are equally likely to get #1, #2 or #3.

Odds:

#1 (15.6%)
#2 (15.6%)
#3 (15.6%)

The less uplifting part is that with the #3 lottery slot, we are far more likely to get the #4 or #5 PICKs.

#4 (22.6%)
#5 (26.5%)

Still, I view this as a big upgrade over the 4th slot, which gives a better than 50% chance of drafting 5th or worse. In 3rd, those chances drop to around 30%.

Man the Nets look awful. Without Lopez and Young they're so bad, this is actually amazing.

Ainge says no. He can get a legit all star stud with that pick. Plus whoever he lands in free agency (Horford, Durant....he gets one of these two IMO).

Ainge has set this thing up perfectly.

Magic number to guarantee at least a tie for 3rd worst is now 1, I believe.  2 to get 3rd worst outright.
