WOW - waking up to see the Suns winning last night is incredible!!!  ;D ;D ;D

HOWEVER, that being said, EVERY STINKING TIME this happens, the Nets end up improbably winning.  Nets - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASEEEEEE lose out!

That's what scares me. I know we can make predictions about who will win what between now and the end of the year but, inevitably, the games turn out way differently than we thought they would. Let's not forget that the last game of the year is at home against Toronto, who will be resting everybody. That's a toss-up. Washington is also a toss-up, regardless of who is playing. Speaking of which...

The Washington games scare me for the Nets since WAS is incredibly inconsistent and they are also just about out of the playoff hunt. We actually need to root for Pistons & Pacers losses as well as Nets losses to keep the Wizards mathematically in it so they play to win against the Nets. ALSO, the last game vs. Toronto for Brooklyn could be a win because Toronto will be resting players. As a result, we need the Suns to win at least 1 more, and given their win last night and that (rightfully) angering their fan base, they will probably go out of their way to lose the last 3....

It's tough, but not impossible. The only way they can get to the playoffs is for Detroit to lose every game and them to win every game (and get help from Chicago losses). They can't possibly pass Indiana, since it would come down to HTH, and Indiana holds the season series over WAS. WAS>DET. Washington plays @Detroit tonight and then hosts Charlotte on the 10th before the Nets game on the 11th (Nets also on 2nd of BTB). Detroit only has tonight's game before the Nets game. So if Washington wins the next two, they go into the Nets game with a shot at the playoffs. Chicago only plays once before then, at Cleveland, but even if Chicago wins, Washington has a chance to tie them at 42-40. Washington>CHI in the season series.

FWIW, the Pelicans play the Lakers tonight, so on Saturday when they play the Suns they'll be on the second night of back to back.  Root for triple OT vs. the Lakers. ;-)  Go Suns!!!

Wizards?

Yeah - the Wizards are now officially eliminated, making it very possible they rest everyone against the Nets, which would be a catastrophe because the Nets finish at home vs. WAS & vs. TOR (who will be resting players as they're locked into their seed) meaning the Nets could win the last two....

If they do, those two games the Celts dropped could be costly.

Imagine if we'd won? We'd be up 2 games on the #3 seed with 3 games left, and we'd have a two game lead in the race for the #3 seed.

Sadly, for us, I don't think the Nets' (our) draft position entered into any of our players' minds AT ALL during those games.

Had it, given the makeup of our team, I have no doubt that the outcomes would have been different. Our team steps up when something is on the line. They would've stepped up if they knew how much it would've helped the team if they did.

To them, these were just 4 games within a very short span against the same opponent who wasn't much of a threat to them on the court. Also, if I remember correctly, both games were home and homes. It's hard psychologically to beat the same team twice in a row in that situation.

I don't lament other teams not taking care of business for us.

I do get disappointed when I think about two very important games the Celts lost due to their own complacency. Those were "must win" games against a terrible opponent, and the team didn't show up.

Both.  They split the odds, but I think there is one extra combination.  The winner of the coin flip gets that one extra chance (very small %), but, more importantly gets the guaranteed position in the draft for the reverse slotting after the lottery.  E.g. suppose the Nets tie and win the coin flip, but don't win the lottery and it's 1. Phi 2. Lakers 3. Minnesota, Nets/C's would then get 4th and Suns would get 5th.
