Wow the Wolves lost to the Lakers last night... pathetic! Would have really helped us if Minny won as I doubt the Nets catch the very-clearly tanking Lake Show.

SO many people overlook the Wolves saying they won't be worse than the Nets, but I am not sure about that. Minny & the Suns are scary bad/tanking.

What is wrong with Minnesota?  The West is nowhere near as tough this year and they have a decent amount of talent, yet still suck.

I think it's three things.

1.  Youth.  Their three most talented players (Wiggins, Towns, Lavine) are either 21 or turn 21 this year.  Players that young just don't win in the NBA.

2.  Coaching.  Sam Mitchell is pretty clearly better at looking like an NBA head coach than he is at being one.

3.  Ricky Rubio.  Guy was supposed to be the centerpiece of their franchise but he's turned out to be a very-good-but-not-great point guard who is so bad on offense he makes Rondo look like Bernard King.

Mike
I'd go with 1 and 2 in that order.  They have a lot of nice prospects on paper but most are more about potential (Wiggins, Lavine, Dieng) and aren't really contributing to winning right now.  Wiggins in particular seems to be massively overrated.

I'm not sure that Rubio should be on the list.  I'm sure when he was drafted there were plenty of expectations of him becoming a superstar.  But it has been apparent for a couple years now that his scoring and shooting would remain below average.

Yeah, there was this from canishoopus (credit to max15 from an earlier thread today):

Apparently Wiggins sucks now...which is crazy. If you read through some of the comments, it seems some people would be happy for Wiggins to turn into Crowder - wow.

I imagine they will right the ship, at least a little bit. We need them and PHX to just be bad-mediocre at this point.

Love Bae but I wouldn't even blink at a trade for Wiggins for him. Bae and much more.

Wiggins needs to do two things:

1. Become an average three point shooter

2. Contribute in some area besides scoring and getting to the line.

Do that, and he'll be pretty good, if not better than that.

I think the chances are pretty decent he gets there eventually.  Especially if they hire a coach who emphasizes defense.

He will also be only 21 years old this month!!!

Looking at the standings: Brooklyn is 12-37 so still on pace for about 20 wins. The next team ahead of them in the East is Milwaukee, already with 20 wins of their own. So I think its safe to say Brooklyn will end up the 2nd worst team in the East (even with rumors of Joe Johnson asking for a buy-out, it looks unlikely that the Sixers, at 7-41, could catch Brooklyn).

In the West, the Lakers are 10-41 and the Kobe Retirement Tankathon is chugging along. I'd love to see the Lakers win more games than Brooklyn but not that would be getting too many things that I want, so I'm too nervous to hope for it.

New Orleans has 18 wins and Denver has 19. NO is still trying to win games and Denver doesn't seem committed to the tank other than being OK with not winning much, so I'm not worried about those teams.

That leaves Phoenix and Minnesota, tied at 14-36. Minnesota isn't trying to win and if Phoenix is smart, they'll stop trying (not that they have much of a choice). But those are the only teams I'm afraid of dipping below Brooklyn.

So, at worst, I think we're looking at the #5 pick in the lottery. Not bad.

Yuck, lead chopped in half. This is the reverse of the normal BKN game: Lousy first half, great second half.

How many of you feel bad about taking such joy in Net losses. I am starting to feel sorry for Lopez he is playing his heart out.
