On the plus side, I see a bunch of losses for them in their next 10.  Hopefully no better than 2-8, but wishful thinking they could be 0-10.

I've given up all hopes of forecasting the Nets. I had them easily beating the T-Wolves and then getting killed by the Bulls on the road on the 2nd night of a BTB.

The best thing we have going for us is that most teams suck slightly less than the Nets do.

As long as they're the 3rd worst team, I'm satisfied. Lakers and Sixers are out of reach at this point. Don't see Brooklyn out-sucking them. As long as they suck more than the Pelicans and everyone else
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

So, does anyone still think free agents are going to want to sign in Brooklyn?

This, plus what Pierce said a few months back, makes me think otherwise.

The Bulls game is a an outlier considering their locker room issues.
I'm not sure if you watched the game, but the Bulls were just terrible- like one of the worst performances you'll see from a team with Butler, Gasol, Rose and their support cast.

Without RHJ, the Nets are heavy underdogs in almost every game they play.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I didn't watch the game and will defer to your judgment. It just feels like there have been a lot more Nets win this season than in the past where they were the worse team but more mentally "in it." Of course, it could be just because I'm paying attention more this year.

Other stuff:

Highlight of Marc Stein's recent power rankings:

Quote
With the Nets lumped into the league's bottom three along with the Lakers and Sixers -- and no games left this season against the Rockets after stunning them twice...

While I'll still be rooting for a Brooklyn loss tonight, I would not be completely unhappy if they won. I feel like Dallas is on the precipice. They had an easy schedule at the beginning of the year and are starting to play closer to what we thought they'd look like. Talk about a team that has good luck on the health front: Forget the Nets and look at Dallas.

This, plus what Pierce said a few months back, makes me think otherwise.

If they offer a second or third tier guy who has previously played for relatively small or lower profile markets a max contract, I think they'll have some pull.  But they've got no shot at signing anybody major.

Demar Derozan feels like a future Net or Laker to me, for example.

Wouldn't shock me to see them sign Rondo.

Demar Derozan is definitely on my list of "players who make me nervous that they might end up on the Nets."

Can we talk about the Lakers/Nuggets game last night for a minute? There's no question that the Lakers have been playing like the second worst team in the NBA, but am I totally crazy for thinking that they have enough talent on the team to have a decent second half of the season?

Denver makes me more nervous. If you had asked me before the season who was more likely to challenge the Nets for the bottom, I would have picked Denver before LA. I know they were playing without Gallinari last night, but even with him, they're still a pretty bad team.

Aside from the title, the main takeaways are that he was injured and thought NY "wasn't for everyone". There's nothing there that suggests FAs aren't going to sign in Brooklyn.

I think they'll try to use their cap space a different way. If they can, they'll try to bring back Brook. Then use the remaining space to take 2-3 year bad deals (Gerald Wallace types) and collect 1st rounders (specifically 1sts in the years of 2017 and 2018, or 2017 rookies selected in June). Build around Bogdanovic, RHJ, T. Young, Lopez and a 1-2 of Larkin/TRob/McCullough, plus whoever they select with the aforementioned picks. Build a respectable foundation to attract free agents in 2018 + 2019, around the time they'll finally be free of the KG/Pierce trade.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

maybe i'm biased, but IMO nets should admit total failure and start prepping for a 2019 rebuild now. they should pump up lopez' and thad's value and ship them out for whatever picks they can get.

get creative with cap space and make trades for toxic contracts, getting extra draft picks back as compensation.

sign free agents/partially guaranteed contracts and flip them at the deadline for more picks.

let your fanbase know you have a plan to build around youth, but it will take a few years, and basically use whatever means you can to get young talent for a real rebuild in 2019.

Bring back Brook? He just signed a multi-year deal last summer.
