  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
@chambers

adding to the above and given that

1/ salary cap flexibility makes lots of sense unless you are a contender (and we know DA approves of this approach)
2/Sullynyk are on expirings which can be great value for money for contenders
3/we have lots of cheap labour coming in (aka rookie contracts) in the next couple of drafts.
4/ we have the team's options for Amir and Lee's second year.
5/2016's huge FA +salary cap going up.

im already on the watch out for a AS break trade involving at least one of Kelly/Sully.

Yep, you're right.
We'll have the luxury of keeping whichever we prefer out of Sully/Olynyk (or both if they pick their games) for the next stage of this 'rebuild'.
I still think that it's possible (although unlikely) as you mentioned, to clean this roster out and leave just rookies and 25 year olds and under remaining.

What we could see (which hasn't really been discussed) is teams wanting to trade for Olynyk or Sullinger to take over their RFA rights as they expire. And Ainge could use this as a pretty nice negotiating tool.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
Meh, dude is talking in generalities about life in the NBA. No need to read between the lines. One always has to be prepared to get traded because that's the reality of the NBA period, even more so when he was part of two years of constant roster turnover.

Agreed.

Disagree.  They have to make a choice between Sullinger and KO at some point.  Danny is not going to let Sully walk.  I personally think Sully has the most overall talent of anyone on the Cs roster.  If he is not a long term health issue, then KO is expendable.

KO knows this, his agent knows this, and he knows Danny knows this.

I agree for the most part. I think Sullinger is the better over all player, but I also think Kelly's skill set could make him a very deadly weapon if he developed some balls. As brought up in other discussions, Lee and Amir Johnson were brought here because their contracts are nice- but they will also teach our rookies about playing hard and working hard (whilst competing for minutes).
Hopefully this helps remove some of Olynyk  'softness' and helps Sullinger get his attitude towards his health and his work ethic out of the gutter.

I almost think the real reason that Amir and Lee were brought in was so that Danny could re-sign Sully/Kelly for less than market rate due to having less than impressive stats with lower minutes.
