He's not even really an nba player at this point. He's a prospect.  Hopefully he will settle down as Summer League goes and we can see the whole body of work.  I think in general it's way too early to judge him either way .

He played in 31 NBA games as a rookie.  He's an NBA player.  He's just a lousy NBA player.
Fab Melo played in NBA games too (a whopping 6 games).  That does not make you an NBA player.

Obviously foolish to write him off completely but it's really not looking good so far.

I like his game overall.  Compare him to a guy who was playing for the other team in Dante Exum and potential wise it's about the same.  Exum is just playing better. Both same size and age.  One guy went top of the draft.   The other went in the middle.  I think young is a decent prospect.  Based on potential there isn't a huge difference.  Young is just further back as far as  his game.

Exum has a much faster first step and better handle.

Highlights without the lowlights.  He still looks good to me here.  More of those and he could be good lol.

Not sure that this is even close to reality.

Their only similarity is size.  Other than that, very little.

I just more meant where they are as far as their games.  Young is behind the curve compared to Exum but he was also drafted later.

Hasn't DraftExpress and you tube proven that you can make just about anyone look like they have the potential to be an NBA superstar? Watching all of last night's game, one would know that Young was just awful.

A much better comparison is Young / Hood. Hood looks like he's taken that next step to getting some good minutes with Utah. Young still looks lost.

Seriously? Don't be THAT guy. Exum is at his worst aggressive and wants to ball.

Good comparison. Another player for comparison is Gary Harris who was there with the same pick.

He's 19

And....?
The youth factor has been well covered. He is very young and this is his first full offseason. My issue is that this was an opportunity for Young to silence his doubters. He has been in the program for a year compared to many others who have been in it for a week or so. He claims he has heard all his doubters and that hes made all these great strides and he comes in here with a chance to dominate against really D-league level talent and he shows nothing whatsoever.

Its to early to give up but this is still concerning. Hes got a few more summer league games to go but this is a concerning start.

The youth factor is irrelevant to evaluating his current play.  It's no more important to know than the color of his mother's friend's sister's boyfriend's barber's dogwalker's shoes.
yes but if he were a 23 year old heading into year 2 then his terrible play would be much more concerning would it not?

No
wait...

what???

They both came into the league very young and very raw with the physical tools to be really good players. 1 year later, 1 player has made huge leaps and the other does not seem to have made said leaps.

comparison seems decently valid to me.

Fab Melo is a former NBA player, and he played fewer NBA games than Young.  Thanks for the comparison.

Right. I chose Exum because I think Young was taken based on upside.  He was a gamble.  Different than Rozier in that regard.  I think Rozier is more like Harris or Hood in that way. Limited upside but their games are probably further along.  DA might have realized the error of his ways drafting young.  He took Gerald Green though who was the same thing.  Different kinds of selections.  I think  young's upside is more comparable to the top players but he's more of a gamble.

I think if anything Ainge usually leans towards upside when picking.  Even Rozier has more upside in that selection.

Kind of have to read between the lines with my posts sometimes.  But he took Young and Rozier when he could have taken Harris or Hood and a player with less upside this draft as well.

It's not that surprising that those guys are further along if you look at the selections.
