James Young had been receiving the most hype out of all the Celtics prospects and I'm surprised their hasn't been a thread created on it yet. I see improvement on his body, but there is nothing fluid about his game. IMO, he looks like a future role player at best, and that has got to be a blow for the Celtics since he was supposed to be the offensive player we're desperate for.

I will say at least Smart looks like a beast. He improved a lot from last year.

So he's not looking like the player worth a top 10 2015 draft pick that some people here hilariously claimed he was?

Yes. I don't see anything positive from Young. He can't hit the open shots. He has cement shoes on defense. He can't create his own shot. Doesn't rebound or pass well. He can't finish strong in traffic like Smart. He is destined for Maine again and maybe in a year or two he might be a role player that can hit an open shot.

It's psychological for Young. Can't get out of his own head.

He needs to learn to get an easy shot early on and get some confidence.  He can shoot that's not the question, he needs to get a feel for the game among other things. In some ways he reminds me of Gerald Green.

I know that so many people say he "can shoot". When and where can he shoot? I need him to shoot in NBA games and wide open shots. I need him to be able to play some defense so that he can stay on the floor to hit the open shots. Obviously they see his role as a JJ Redick or JR Smith type but guess what? Both those guys can play defense and both hit open shots.

All knocks against young comng into the league And even though ainge just resigned Bradley, he signs a guy that is at best a spot up shooter ::). At the least he drafted jeff green to replace jeff green >:(

I've been thinking the same thing but keep telling myself its only 2 summer league games and to calm down.. It's not like they are setting up offenses for him to work out of, its basically street ball.
But having said that he looks horrible, can't shoot, can't play D. Doesn't look like he belongs in the association.

I had high hopes for him this year also, but I'm not ready to bail on him just yet.

He may develop eventually but how long do you wait for that??  Right now he looks like a one trick pony and he cant even perform that one(shooting )trick.  Man , this is discouraging.  At least show something!  Can he even dribble?

his work ethic has changed,he did get stronger and is working at defensive drills--he proved he can shoot up in maine and is a work in progess on defense-rj struggles as well, maybe too much going on in their heads-
new everything doesn't help

If there is any lesson to be learned from the way this kid was hyped around here, it's that take EVERYTHING said about a player potential with grain of salt, even when it's coming from supposedly smartest basketball fans of the world.

Doc Rivers, is that you?

Watching him it doesn't even look like he wants to put the ball on the ground. If he gets it is either a 3 that he clanks or he just moves the ball. I'd like to see something else from his game but he's shown me nothing. Big disappointment so far.

It's pretty scary how bad he's looked. He just looks awkward out there.

I don't judge a player on whether he makes or misses shots, (unless they are breakaways)

Rather,                 How the shot looks on the release.
                            Footwork
Whether the player made a legitimate move prior to the shot
How hard he cuts to the basket or comes off screens

You have to imagine that the coaching staff and Ainge see theses players everyday.  Steven's and Ainge must know the potential and skill set of each athlete.

People were crying last year about playing James Young more because he could shoot.  I can't imagine that two summer league games make a difference either way.  They are just practice.

Odds have a way of righting themselves.  If the kid can play, we'll see it over the long haul.
