I just get the feeling that part of Young's problem is that he isn't spending enough time studying film.

I disagree. His ability to get open is not the real issue. Hunter is having this issue or the other players are not locating him

Young is getting off quality shots. Just shooting the ball off balance. He needs to learn to utilize head fakes. Make sure his feet are set before shooting. Stop shooting off balance and fadeaways.  In practice im sure and  his workout videos last season  he barely missed
You are aware that players use game film to see what they did wrong and try to correct those things, how to correct their shot, their positioning on defense, etc. He needs to get in the film room to watch his shot and correct his balance problems, see how much that is causing problems. Also, he needs to watch defensive game film to ensure his positioning is correct and that he is ball watching which is making him lose his man for easy shots. Game film tells you a lot more than just positioning and flow on the offensive side.

Well little changed from sl game 1 or 2. Or actually how he shot the ball from last season

You could also blame the coaching staff on this matter
I would blame Young. I refuse to believe that the coaching staff hasn't told him repeatedly to get in the film room, to better position himself on defense, to stop ball watching and have faith in your team mates doing their job while you do yours, and how to correct his shot.

Young is young. He probably hasn't matured enough or isn't smart enough to get what he is being told. Hopefully this isn't the problem and he just has game jitters which should go away with playing time but he won't be getting playing time if he isn't doing the right things in practice and exhibitions like Summer League.

And....?
The youth factor has been well covered. He is very young and this is his first full offseason. My issue is that this was an opportunity for Young to silence his doubters. He has been in the program for a year compared to many others who have been in it for a week or so. He claims he has heard all his doubters and that hes made all these great strides and he comes in here with a chance to dominate against really D-league level talent and he shows nothing whatsoever.

Its to early to give up but this is still concerning. Hes got a few more summer league games to go but this is a concerning start.

The youth factor is irrelevant to evaluating his current play.  It's no more important to know than the color of his mother's friend's sister's boyfriend's barber's dogwalker's shoes.

yes but if he were a 23 year old heading into year 2 then his terrible play would be much more concerning would it not?

He's not even really an nba player at this point. He's a prospect.  Hopefully he will settle down as Summer League goes and we can see the whole body of work.  I think in general it's way too early to judge him either way .

He played in 31 NBA games as a rookie.  He's an NBA player.  He's just a lousy NBA player.

I think more goes into scouting him anyways.  It really depends what his upside is, how long it's going to take etc... He's 19 seems to me like he has some upside.  Is he going to be 25 when he realizes it?  Are the CEltics going to wait around that long?  Who knows right now. He's not very good right now.  Both ends of the floor really.  There is a lot to criticize.

I would think more time in the gym working on his footwork would be more beneficial to him then watching film showing him how bad his game is.

I am not bothered by him missing jump-shots. Bad shooting nights happen. We know he can shoot. I am disappointed in the lack of improvement defensively and how far away he is from where he needs to be defensively to get 10-15mpg next year.

Here's james young missing shots. Clanking them really off the front of the rim. And out of position defensively.  He does make a couple plays diving for loose balls though.

There are approximately 4.5 million 19 year olds in the country right now.  By your logic, all of them have a chance to quality NBA players.

Come on man, you got to come with something stronger than that.
