Ainge's Offer for the 9th Pick

All reports say it was numerous picks, including a probable Nets pick, for #9. Danny has come out and practically said it was dumb of them to turn it down (and that they probably offered too much). Especially considering they opted for Kaminsky (obviously the C's were targeting Winslow).

Fairly objectively that is a crazy amount to turn down for Kaminsky.

Mid to late 1st round picks aren't valuable.  If they were we could've gotten a deal done for Okafor. Nobody wants our assets. Idk how many trade deadlines, draft days, and offseasons need to go by before we really start this rebuild.

If those Brooklyn picks end up being nothing more than middle of the line or worse, than that Brooklyn trade Ainge made will end up turning into a MASSIVE failure.

In 2017 when the cap rises, Brooklyn will have more money to spend rendering the 2018 pick less valuable.

Who cares. But the most important thing is that if the pick for 2016 pans out, then we might have a lottery pick either in late teens or early seven. That slim chance is what would definitely make me consider trading Pierce/Garnett for.

Can we stop acting like Pierce/Garnett were anything but role players at that point in time. Other than Pierce, who I had a lot of emotions for, nostalgically, I would and will be okay with this trade 10 times out of 10..

The haul we got for draft picks were definitely valuable. And you know what? After looking at the Hornets pick, I realized how much teams were overvaluing their picks. Anything after 7 in my opinion were the cut offs. Kristap, Hezonja, Winslow, Russell, Oakfor, Towns, and Mudiay were the only players I could see with Allstar and Superstar potential.

And you know another thing? A lot of GM's would say they would trade Pierce/Garnett for picks, but I don't think everyone would. Some GM's like Ainge said during the Hornets debacle, "some teams are just dead set on getting this player, because they believe they could be that transcendental player. But in a few years, they'll think back and realize the mistake they made."

I mean I'm sorry the Hornets completely screwed themselves AGAIN.

Why draft Frank who literally has a slightly better ceiling than Hawes?

My guess is it was a good offer until some guys who were projected to go higher fell and became available.

My guess is that the offer was contingent on Winslow being there at #9 and no deal would have been offered to move up to take someone like Cauley-Stein.

Charlotte always draft players that had a good tournament. They are stupid at drafting. But I'd need to know what those 4 picks were before I praise Ainge for trying to trade up. What if it was our 2 in this draft and like that fake Minnesotta first round pick and a philly second. That's not like some amazing offer. I guess we will wait and see if there is more info

I feel like in less than 1 year Frank Kaminsky's price will be far less than #16 and two protected first rounders. I doubt that Kaminsky was our target, though.

I dont understand Charlotte. Winslow seems like such a Jordanesque player to me. With the all star game heading there in 2017, it could have been the perfect choice. Duke is a local school for goodness sake. SMH.

that's a crap offer. offer a player.  offer them unprotected.   it just reinforces that these 'assets' are not worth much.   

it also makes me think ainge has ruined his credibility around the league with other teams and has essentially made him impotent in a gm's chair.

Charlotte made the playoffs.  Then they lost much of their three-point shooting in the form of Brian McRoberts, Anthony Tolliver, and Chris Douglas-Roberts and missed the playoffs.  Having traded for Batum, they decided to go for a position where they felt a more pressing need instead of the best player available regardless of positional overlap, especially since there is a chance they move on from Al Jefferson when his contract is up a year from now.

I understand their reasoning.  I just disagree with it.
