You guys are crazy. You absolutely make that trade, don't give it a second thought, and laugh all the way to the bank.
Of course neither Minnesota or LA makes either of those trades.
yup
I'd also do that trade for embiid instead... Even given his "setback".
I like smart, but think he is more likely to develop into a tony Allen defensive player than a Russell Westbrook allstar.
I agree with you about this year's picks, but Embiid also? A 7 footer with foot issues who's never played a single second in the NBA. In that scenario, Hinkie would be the one laughing his way to the bank.
Nah. If that were the case he wouldn't have drafted him 3rd after his injury. He's closer to playing now than he was then. I might be wrong, but Im pretty convinced that most people here are misunderstanding embiid's situation right now. We will find out if I am an idiot in a couple weeks. Right now, I'd gladly trade smart and picks for embiid. Healthy embiid is better than anyone in this draft and for all we know he might be a couple weeks away from being green lit. Obviously you'd consult with doctors first. If he's missing another season, that's a problem. But the only thing suggesting that he'll miss an entire season is wild media speculation.
I dont have it on hand but there is a quote from Bill Self suggesting that Embiid battled injuries prior to Kansas. At Kansas Embiid suffered a stress related injury preventing him from completing the relatively short college basketball season. Later that year, he was discovered to have suffered another stress related injury this one in his foot. Now a full year later Embiid's injury is at the very least not healing in the way it was expected to/hoped to heal.
So you have a 21 year old 7 footer who for the entirety of his reported basketball career has battled stress injuries. That is a very big risk.
The thing is that we really dont know what Embiids situation is. Im all for gambling on superstars, but not until there is more information on Embiids foot.
This is a lot like the Upshaw situation. As fans, we dont know his drug issues etc. so its really tough to put a valuation on him.
Hinkie loves potential. He is only going to trade Embiid if he a) gets stupid value in return or b) doesnt believe that Embiid projects favorably as a superstar.
basically getting Embiid is probably not going to be a good call.
