Would you let go of Marcus, this year's #16 pick, and next year's Brooklyn 1st rounder for Towns of Okafor?

No. Smart is as good as anyone in the 3-8 range in this draft, and adding the #16 pick and an unprotected Nets pick next year that may be a lottery pick is way too much to give up for a moderate upgrade over Smart. I would instead use less assets to trade into the 4-8 range, we may get a player just about as good as Towns or Okafor there.

I love Marcus too, but I'm not as tied to him as some C's fans are, so I would only do it for Towns. I would also like to put top-3 protection on that pick so we would have to come up with some alternative pick(s) that they would receive if the pick fell into the protection.

For Okafor, no thanks. I probably wouldn't even do Smart for Okafor straight up. I'm not as high on Okafor as most. I think he is somewhere between a young Al Jefferson and a taller Jared Sullinger. That's not a bad player at all. Good to very good, yes. Elite no.

You guys are crazy.  You absolutely make that trade, don't give it a second thought, and laugh all the way to the bank.

Of course neither Minnesota or LA makes either of those trades.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

I thin its much more realistic for us to trade for the 9-12th pick to get Myles Turner.

For Towns definitely.  For Okafor probably.  I haven't seen anything about his workouts so I'd want to be convinced he could be at least an average defender.  With either, we'd probably have our starting center locked up for the next 10 years.

Boy, this one has me torn. I love smart, but Minny is probably a good PG away from contending.  They have a Deing and Pekovich to go with Shabazz and Wiggins.  They might do this as well as send a player our way.  This would cause me to think!

yup

I'd also do that trade for embiid instead... Even given his "setback".

I like smart, but think he is more likely to develop into a tony Allen defensive player than a Russell Westbrook allstar.

I think right now, Smart is already a better offensive player than TA ever has been. Not quite as good or versatile defensively, but he almost certainly will be one day. His defensive instincts are downright incredible. Best rookie defender I've ever seen (Of course, I'm only 24).

Tony Allen is one of the three most important players on a team that has been contending for like 5 years in a brutal WC. That Grizzly team could've probably made at least one final in the East. If Smart becomes TA with a jump shot, that alone could be good enough for a DPOY award or two and some ASG votes. But when you consider how good Smart was in college driving to the hoop and generating FT's plus his role in the offense that only allowed that aspect of his game to show up in flashes last year, his potential is huge.

When you add in the leadership and the intangibles, Smart could easily be one of the most important players on the next contending Celtics team.

For Towns I'd do that alllll day. For the #2 pick I'd strongly consider it, but not to take Okafor who is too one-dimensional. I'd prefer Russell, who is awesome, but I'm not sure it's enough of an upgrade to give up #16+Bkn '16.

You vastly over-rate Smart, as do most CB'ers.  He was 2nd team rookie, same as Olynyk a year ago, in another very weak draft class. Suddenly he is worthy of 3-8 range in this draft?

TA defensively is one of the best defenders in the NBA for his size in the last 10 years.

Offensively, although he is an inconsistent shooter, and ball handler, he is better at creating his own shot than MS, better at driving to the hole.
