2011: JaJuan Johnson
2012: Sullinger and Fab Melo
2013: Olynyk
2014: Smart and Young
2011 to 2013 are all blown drafts. Smart at least plays good D but for a top 6 pick they should do better. Young looks like a less athletic Gerald Green.
In 2011 they looked long and hard at Chandler Parsons. In an interview he even said he was shocked they did not pick him.
2012, Sullinger will eat himself out of the league and in Jackie Mac's article today Danny admits they knew he had weight issues. Fab Melo. Need I say more?
2013, Draftexpress starts covering the Greek Freak after Ainge is seen scouting him personally. He reverts to his typical anti Euro bias and takes the safe choice in Olynyk who can not guard a locked door with a shotgun. Meanwhile Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be well, we all know what he is going to be.
2014, the jury is still out. Hopefully after three drafts in a row the Boston "Brain Trust" will not blow it. Do not hold your breath.
Boston has not drafted a decent player since Bradley in 2010. That is just awful. Sullinger is injury prone and has not even tried to handle his weight. Instead he lies about it. Look up any of his interviews from last summer if you don't believe me. Olynyk plays terrified and is useless on D. Useless.
In the end all the people who are excited we have however many million draft picks should realize Boston has blown four drafts in a row and blown them bad. There is no way to debate it. Melo, Johnson and even Brooks who he was traded for are all out of the league, Sullinger has yet to play a full season and is about to be the next Oliver Miller. Olynyk will be playing in Greece in two years while the Greek we should have picked will be in the MVP race. Thanks "Brain Trust".
Couldn't have said it better. Danny Ainge has a bias against euros. He also had some colossal misses with JJJ Flab Melo and KO. The Greek freak was the pick. Everyone saw it. Yet Danny passed on Giannis because he was a Euro. The irony of course is that KO plays defense like a stereotypical European too. This last draft was awful though. Ainge has the opportunity to tank and holds onto his garbage role players like Rondo and Bass thus costing this team the chance to get more ping pong balls for a top 3 pick. Instead we are left with Banks 2.0 and a D Leaguer. Ainge needs to be shown the door after this year. Please let CBS go to Indiana and lets get someone in here who is committed to building the right way. Philly Los Angeles Knicks are doing it the right way now. Let's emulate and make a strong commitment to tanking so 18 comes that much sooner.
Haha.
Yeah Philly, LA, and NY are all looking real good.
I'd take a top 3 pick in this year's draft over anyone on this roster. Hence the Knicks and Lakers have much better futures. 76ers have the most young talent including two young bigs any of us would want. But yes keep the faith of Banks 2.0 being the answer. I'm going to bet on the proverbial nut punch.
I respectfully disagree with you, and I respect your opinion. With that said, this rebuild is only in "stage 2"or "year 2" rather. In year 2 of a rebuild, we have accumulated tons of draft picks to use in the next 3-5 years. And I think Marcus was a solid pick at 6. Besides the obvious Wiggins and Parker, I have yet to judge Embiid. Dante Exum is meh, and you can argue Aaron Gordon is either the same or not as good as Smart. So You can also argue Smart could be a top 4 pick. Smart in his rookie season is already helping this team win with his tenacious defense and you can definitely see him improve as the season goes along. Beginning of the season I was upset he wasn't driving as much to the basket. I'm starting to see some of it now.
The 76ers has been tanking before we did, and they're still no where near playoffs. I understand their strategy is to get lucky and hit a homerun in the draft but you're putting too much "hope" to get lucky with the ping pong balls.
I think Brad is doing an amazing job with these young group of guys and definitely developing young players and reviving some careers briefly (for trading), like Crawford whom we got a free 2nd rounder for and he's out of the league. Not sure if Evans will stay for the long term, but not sure what his future is like if he is traded.
I think Danny is building through the draft AND at the same time trading for assets. He doesn't want to spend half a decade tanking. He wants to win asap.
