I was thinking about how there are a number of posters that are fearing the celtics entering NBA purgatory and saying we are really screwing up by winning these games. At this point, I really wonder what the pro-tanking thinks the celtics can do?

We are actually playing better than when we had Jeff Green and Rondo starting right now.
If you look at the box score from last night we had two players play that were over 26 (Bass and Thornton)

Bass played 23 minutes, Thornton 20. Prince and Wallace did not play. If the celtics win games with sullinger, bradley, smart, young and zeller playing over 20-30 minutes, what more can they do to tank?

They are trying to trade Thornton, Bass, and Prince, if they can't they will buy them out after the trade deadline and then the losses will pile up.  I think they can get something for Thornton and Bass, Prince will most likely have to be bought out.
2019 historical draft.  Pick 12

Tim Duncan, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor, Scottie Pippen, Willis Reed, Mitch Richmond, Sam Jones, Dan Majerle, Bob Cousy, Rasheed Wallace, Shawn Kemp, Marcus Camby

I don't care about them ..ol tankers .....silly stuff.....it's a sad sac of thought

You never want to waste energy losing games on purpose ....object is to win always .

You never want rookies to THINK they are suppose to loose , or the Front office doesn't want them to win ......that's absurd thinkng.

That is kind of the part I am curious about. You really believe that Bass and Thornton are the difference between us winning and losing any games? Like I said in the original post those guys played a combined 43 minutes last night (Prince did not play).

I wanted to tank as soon as Rondo was traded, but when Danny didn't sell off our vets immediately after Rondo left, I resigned myself to the fact that tanking isn't realistic this year. Now I'm all in for the playoffs. It's SOOOOOOO much more fun actually rooting for wins again rather than losses ;)

Trade Bass, Thornton, buyout Prince. Basically level the roster except for young talent and players that can be part of the future. Lose as many games as possible, get a top 3 pick. Draft an actually elite player instead of a role player with the 10th pick.

Danny Ainge is wrecking the Celtics. If the Nets don't give us phenomenal picks the next 3 years we are in for possibly a decade of purgatory.

Say what you want about the 76ers they are going to be a legit contender before we are.

Wrecking the Celtics?  He traded everyone he has been able to trade so far.  And like someone else said, Bass and Thornton aren't making much of a difference over a replacement player.  At this point it seems like what Ainge has done would be a pro tanker's wet dream.  Ainge can't give himself a uniform so he can take a more active role in throwing games.

Absolutely no guarantee of that. They may have some nice pieces, but they'll still need a ton of luck for everything to work out for them.

I totally agree. What if embiid continues to have injury problems? Will noel, mcw, and saric turn them into contenders? Too many question marks

Not saying they won't contend before we do, just saying there's a lot of basketball between now and contending for both teams
I trust Danny Ainge

Probably not. Thorton shot well and had 17 points, but Bass shot horribly 4-13. I think playing sullinger, turner and bradley a few more minutes instead of those guys would have been pretty negligible. 5 points above placement in 43 minutes is a pretty significant difference. Maybe the stat heads could chime in.

When do you anticipate this legit contender?

So you'll be happy there. Bye.
It's nice seeing him get exposed as overrated after having argued with fellow fans for years that he was overrated.. but I don't hate him. I'm looking forward to seeing him [...] bounce around to a couple more teams... eventually come back to Boston[...] and helps us as a role player until he runs himself out of the league.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'm what you'd call a 'pro tanker' but your statement is completely wrong about being better now that Green and Rondo are gone. Do you think we wouldn't have won those games if Green and Rondo were here? Look at who we beat....

I like seeing us win certain games- but not just because the other teams stink or are injured, and I have less of a problem with it when guys like Young, Smart and Zeller get minutes, but to me, these wins over the past 2 weeks have been completely and utterly pointless.

We've beaten teams that are poor, or who were without their best player, or who have started tanking themselves (nuggets).

Look below and tell me that Green and Rondo cause us to lose any of these binkies?

Our last 10 games we've won 5 games. Who were those wins against?

Portland- without LaMarcus Aldridge or Sideshow bob (Robin Lopez)

Denver- lost 11 of their last 12 games- also didn't have Lawson that night.

Jazz- they are pretty bad but we shot very well. 42% from3 point land and just had a hot night, and the thing that p---ed me off about this win was that TayShaun Prince was the reason we won the game. A guy who has no place out there on the court for us- we are parading him around for a second round pick and hurting our own draft pick in the process.

Beat the Knicks

Beat the Nuggets again after Shaw makes some questionable substitutions in the fourth quarter and they shoot more bricks than a construction site.

And next we play the tanking 76ers- ditto.

I really fail to see what winning any of those games accomplishes for our organization- but I understand that people want to see us win.

Bass, Crowder, Prince, Thornton and Evan Turner should be gone by next season. I'm just glad that the trade deadline is coming because hopefully Danny finds deals for Bass, Thornton and Prince. Crowder is going to free agency and Turner is a trade chip that Danny's hoping to nab a first round pick for at some stage. Having Turner out there actually hurts us so I don't care if he hangs around for the rest of the season.

Anyway that's my opinion and hopefully answers your question.
I just want us to have the best possible shot at getting a franchise player. Who knows, we may get super lucky and somehow land a top 3 pick in the lottery, but it's frustrating to see us win games on the back of guys who are not going to be here next season and will have nothing to do with the Celtics in 2016.

Marcus Smart and James Young can still develop really well, it would just be nice to get them another top 4 or 5 pick rather than the 7th, 8th or 9th or 10th pick.
I'm also worried about us finishing with the 7th worst record and then getting unlucky and getting the 10th pick in the draft.
 Wouldn't that be swell?

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
