No, I'd rather gamble on Okafor (or other draft pick) rather than trade for Cousins

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Roy you defend him to the death and it's completely justified-he just doesn't seem like what I'd imagine Roy's NBA mvp pick.

The great question mark that divides the pro and anti cousins teams is whether he is angry because he's a spoilt brat without the heart of an NBA champion.... or whether  he's in an early KG/Minnesota phase of dealing with losing consistently as someone who's desperately paining for that winning on the court and beating the best and being challenged for that title as your religion.

Question  that was on RealGM that makes you think about Cousins relative value.

Would the Kings have 5-10 more wins with Marc Gasol instead of Cousins? ... if Marc Gasol is the popular choice for best big man in the NBA or you voted yes, why did you vote yes?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

They'd probably have 2 or 3 more wins because Cousins missed 10 games with meningitis.  However, on the court I don't think Gasol would have made any positive difference.  The Kings have been very good with Boogie in the game, and I doubt that Gasol could improve on that.

I would answer "no" to that question.

You only have to see the difference on how the Kings play with Cousins on and off the court to know that his stats are not empty stats. They are impactful. While Gasol is also in the top 5 centers in the league and is certainly more mature. I don't think his presence makes the Kings better than they are with Cousins.

Gasol would make the Kings better.

So would Anthony Davis imo

I'm sorry. But while AD is untouchable, so is DMC.

DMC gets unwarranted negative attention for his younger days. Hes a top 10 MVP candidate on and off the court. He has less techs. Less fouls, takes more charges, improved defense and passing.... Hes the consummate superstar that gets no love. Someone asked me Kyrie or DMC. I said DMC, and he laughed.

Ummm....well who's going to stop a driving DMC when hes dribbling down the lane, and the only chance is to foul him?

was leaning towards no earlier this season but more and more I'm coming around to making this deal and wondering what other assets have to be thrown in to make it happen.

If Smart is here, we'll have two 'D' Marcuses.

"The Spanish KG who's almost 30 and arguably the best player in the world would be an upgrade." Triboy, I'm wondering why you're not ecstatic with Cousins. He's only 24. You wouldn't trade Smart for him because it looks like he tries harder and has the "potential" to be better, while in reality Cousins is arguably a better player than Gasol already and 6 years younger. Did you just throw out the next face of the league for safe measure? If Gasol is more of a "winner," why did you dislike Rondo? Since Smart has been on the team, they have a .380 winning percentage. Oh, he doesn't have the horses? Well, neither does Cousins. And don't try to argue that Rudy Gay is sufficient help, especially out West. This is made worse by the new owners' "Run and Gun and Oh What's Defense" style. Oh and by the way, the Pelicans are 9th in the West (tied for with OKC and out of the playoffs), and they have Jrue Holiday, Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson, and Tyreke Evans, better than anything Cousins ever had. Heck, Omer Asik too. We get it that you don't like Cousins's attitude, but don't trash his talent or insult his skill.

Roy has already given the numbers, and I wouldn't want to copy and paste mindlessly, but Cousins makes one of, if not the, largest on-court differences in the league. The Kings were a playoff team, darling of the league, and playing great defense, but then Cousins gets hurt, they fire Malone, and decide to say "screw defense, let's try to be the Warriors without the shooters or depth." If you were a basketball player, would you really be going for that?

I've noted that the only alternative to swapping the No. 1 pick for Demarcus discussed at length is Okafor. What of Karl Towns, or Mudiay?

Well, I don't want to take a personal shot at another poster.  TB is entitled to an opinion.

That said, it's been a weird debate.  It sort of goes:

Step 1.  DMC critic makes blatantly false claim about DMC;
Step 2.  Other posters disagree, and post evidence;
Step 3.  No response from DMC critic;
Step 4.  DMC critic goes back to Step 1, either with the same claim or an equally specious one.

There's no give and take.  It's like "DMC should take more charges", and when told that DMC has actually led the league in charges taken for two years in a row, there's just complete silence.  How is that debate?

Just because he lead the league in charges doesn't mean he can't take more.   Who's specious now?!?

Roy bottom line is Kings are not a good team with cousin being the man. They will attract no key FAs either. Thats how much key FAs want to play with Cousins

I never said he was not skilled.  But he is missing " other" things that makes a player a positive teammate ,leader etc. Help a team be a better team

Maybe a guy like Smart could be a good influence on a guy like cousins. Still i would not give up a 2015 1st to take that risk

To me there is more risk in picking a one and done big man out of college than picking the guy who is already producing 23/12 in the western conf.  Yeah the cap hit is way bigger, but we are getting a sure fire all star, not waiting 3-5 years to see if we picked correctly.

But then I don't see Okafor or Towns as a sure fire multiple all star in the Anthony Davis mode like some others do I guess.
