I really like Smart, but I don't see any realistic scenario other than a potential crippling injury to DMC where he'd have more value than Cousins.

Smart is the anti cousin. Plays hard 24/7.  He also has not shown us everything he is capable of.

How do you know he wont be a better overall player than cousins? He is already a better defensive player.

Cousins is already one of the best NBA centers and he is only 24 so he might not be at his peak performance yet.  It is possible that Smart reaches Cousins level but it is much more likely that he won't.  Just like Bradley, I think Smart's defense is overhyped.  As he's asked to do more on offense, I expect his defense to suffer.  I also don't see Smart as a true PG.  He's going to need to be paired with someone like Dragic or Ellis who can share the load of running the offense.

There is a possibility Smart may not workout as a point guard, I'll give you that, and you're right he may need to be paired with a certain type of 2 guard to take the PG pressure off him.

But when you say "I think his defense is overhyped" that is just laughable. He just came into the league, he plays defense like a pit bull, he's just now learning to understand team defense in the NBA. His one ball defense is better than Avery Bradley's, a 2nd team all defensive guard. Everyone, from Tom Heinsohn, to Dave Cowens, to Cedric Maxwell, to major analysts who cover the NBA on an everyday basis say his defense is stellar, and you say "I think his defense is overhyped"

None of this is true, but let's focus on the "boost his team" stuff.  His team outscores opponents -- by a wide margin -- when Cousins is on the court.  How is that not "boosting" his team?  Isn't the point to outscore your opponent?

He doesn't?  He's improved consistently from year to year in terms of offense, rebounding, and defending.  He's become one of the best defenders in the NBA both in the post and on the P&R.  That, despite a mid-season coaching change that has focused on offensive pace and made defense an afterthought.  Cousins has consistently been a team leader this season, as well, from working out with the nobodies in summer league to trying to motivate the team during their down stretch. 

Smart on the other hand, is all about the little things that don't show up on the stat sheets. Once he feels more comfortable and puts up some better stats, he will be a special player. Do whatever it takes to win kind of player

I like Smart.  I like his toughness and his passion.  I have no idea where you got the impression of DMC that you have, though.  Respectfully, I'm not sure it's based on facts.
