Well i would not trade okafor for cousins. I wouldnt trade smart for cousins.
That makes one of us. I'd move Smart in a heartbeat.
Seriously?? You would trade Smart for Cousins?
I'm trying to figure out if this is sarcasm.
I really like Smart, but I don't see any realistic scenario other than a potential crippling injury to DMC where he'd have more value than Cousins.
Smart is the anti cousin. Plays hard 24/7. He also has not shown us everything he is capable of.
How do you know he wont be a better overall player than cousins? He is already a better defensive player.
Cousins is already one of the best NBA centers and he is only 24 so he might not be at his peak performance yet. It is possible that Smart reaches Cousins level but it is much more likely that he won't. Just like Bradley, I think Smart's defense is overhyped. As he's asked to do more on offense, I expect his defense to suffer. I also don't see Smart as a true PG. He's going to need to be paired with someone like Dragic or Ellis who can share the load of running the offense.
If Smart defense is over-hyped, who is a better perimeter defender in your books??
Cousins is one of the best centers ?? He is over-hyped
He scores 20/10 yet his team loses games after games. He doesn't know how to boost his team. From what i have seen, he tries to do everything himself on the offensive end. Rarely takes charges , dives for the ball etc on the defensive end.
He doesn't do the little things to take his game to another level. Smart on the other hand, is all about the little things that don't show up on the stat sheets. Once he feels more comfortable and puts up some better stats, he will be a special player. Do whatever it takes to win kind of player
I'm not even going to comment on your suggestion that Smart is more valuable to a team then Cousins. As much as I love Smart as a player, this concept is just way to laughable that I can't even take it seriously enough to justify a serious response.
But, as ridiculous as that claim is, you have the right to believe it if you so choose.
Regarding your comments about DMC not helping his team and being overhyped however, that I have to comment on because that's just plain untrue.
Let me quote some +/- stats for you - these indicate how a team players when the specified play is on (versus off) the court:
Lebron James: +17.5
Stephen Curry: +16.6
Demarcus Cousins: +16.0
Kyrie Irving: +16.3
Chris Paul: +14.4
Anthony Davis: +13.5
Blake Griffin: +11.7
James Harden: +11.3
Klay Thompson: +11.2
Carmello Anthony: +10.1
Jeff Teague: +9.4
Russell Westbrook: +8.1
Kevin Durant: +7.6
Dwight Howard: +6.1
Dwyane Wade: +4.3
Pau Gasol: +3.4
Chris Bosh: +3.4
Marc Gasol: +2.2
Tim Duncan: -3.2
I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to work out, from these stats, that Demarcus Cousins helps his team just as much as any superstar in this league.
The Kings are 16 points per 100 possessions better when he is on the court, versus when he sits on the bench. That is massive - from all the stats I've seen so far, only Lebron James and Stephen Curry have a bigger impact on their team's success.
Just for your entertainment, Marcus Smart has an on/off stat of +9.6 - this is I believe the highest of all Celtics players, and show's that he probably impacts the Celtics success more than any other player on their Roster...but does he have more impact then DMC? No...and very few players do.
I honestly have not seen a single (team or individual) statistic that indicates DMC is anything but short of a top 5-10 player in the NBA. It's a well known fact that every time Cousins is off the court, the Kings turn to dust and crumble.
