We're going to be making major moves at some point, simply because we have too many picks and young players to possibly fit them all on one roster.  We likely will have something like 8 picks in 2016; we aren't going to be using all of them.

Thing is, other teams know this as well.

But, stashing picks overseas is an option.

And it's also inevitable for some teams to want first rounders at some point. So we've basically robbed teams of first rounders, hogged first rounders, and are now cornering the market.

What I brought up in another thread is the old Patriots move.  Trade a draft pick for a possible better future draft pick.  That would help us spread out all these picks.  That's if there is no big trade to make.

The question becomes does Kevin Durant become this upcoming summers Kevin love.

I am sure Ainge is going to try to get him.

But, chances are slim to none.

If Durant leaves, I've heard an awful lot about him going to play in DC, which is where he is from.

Maybe we can play the hometown angle in 7-8 years when Nerlens Noel, Michael Carter-Williams, and Noah Vonleh are unrestricted free agents.

Well, in 7-8 years I am going to be in my forties and won't give a rat's ass about anything by then ;)

Speaking from experience, you'll give a whole lot of rats ass about a bunch of things, including the health and education of your kids, which will make you value your job more than ever before (and make you worry about losing it), you'll worry about the health of your ageing parents, and you'll wonder why the only free time you have left is spent sitting in front of a laptop/desktop/ipad/etc typing out comments on a message board....

It may be worth trying to build from the bottom up by overpaying on a couple good players this summer so we can be a reasonable destination for Durant in 2016.

It's a long shot, but hey, everything's a long shot.

With Rondo gone, it really is now time for Danny to cash in.

I'm just not sure we can land a marquee name but I'm hoping on hope that if we don't, we can at least get a couple of starter quality talent and we can start the rebuild.

We have picks and cap room. We should be able to land a good player by next year, either And up and comer or an established veteran.

Also, here's hoping the ping pongs be in our favor.

I agree with this, but I think it is optimistic to think we can go the FA route for a high end player.

Even if we have the "room" under the cap, We can't offer as much as teams in lower tax rates, simply because of taxes.

We also can't offer the allure of "winning a championship" since we... um, suck.

And we aren't a big media place like LA or NY.

So, I fully expect Danny to search for a trade partner at the deadline, using a combination of players and picks to bring back a somewhat marquee player that can be built around. Given the likely salary attached to such a player, this hurts the chances of signing a big name FA, but then again I view that as difficult anyway.

If we overpay for some good players this summer then we have no cap space left to try to sign someone like Durant. That's the type of strategy that gets teams stuck in mediocrity for decades.

That 29 teams every year fail to win the championship generates a nearly endless supply of examples people use to bolster their arguments for why this or that won't/doesn't work. I read a post somewhere a few days ago that proclaimed Durant was a stat padding loser. ???

We have quite a bit of salary coming off the books that year, mostly thanks to Gerard Wallace. Should be able to carve out a Durant sized hole with some basic cap maneuvering.

Not that it's particularly likely, but it's possible.

Heyyy, quick question...WHERE are the Celtics last TEN YEARS OF DRAFT PICKS..???  Ya but meadowlark_scal you don't know nuttin....we got lots of draft picks and we can...........
i will assume you missed the many posts and threads on this or related topics. compared to other teams in similar draft positions, ainge is well above average as a drafter of talent.

there. now you can do the homework if you wish and compare drafting records of GMs from all nba teams instead of using an n of 1 and putting on 20-20 looking-at-the-past glasses. enjoy.

The only way for us to do it is through the draft. Butler, Gasol, Leonard... nope. So, we're literally playing the lottery till we hit.

So our success is "governed by chance" Cool. It'll be neat to see if CsBlog is still in action when we're relevant again.

for a team so focused on our draft picks its so frustrating to see how little our rookies play.
young still w no minutes when you're down 25 in the fourth?
i see crowder did well and they made a comeback but c'mon. If we're gonna be so heavily focused on draft and building w the players we draft doesn't that mean we have to play those players a bit more once they're here??
