The question becomes does Kevin Durant become this upcoming summers Kevin love.

No chance, in my mind.

Seems like the conclusion most on this thread are reaching is that if fireworks didn't happen last summer, they're unlikely to happen this summer.

The conclusion I'm reaching is that because they didn't happen last summer, the more likely they are to happen this summer. Stars come and go on the trade and free agent market, and Danny is equipped with assets to fish for any one of them. If he can't land a stud prospect in the 2015 Draft, I expect a blockbuster to occur within a year from June.

I hope that last year doesn't make a blockbuster any more or less likely.  Danny shouldn't rush to make a big move just because he struck out last year.  Doing so appeals more to marketing than it does to team-building.  In fairness to Danny, though, I think he's only ever made one such trade (trading a #1 for Antoine Walker, which seemed like a short-term fix).

I am skeptical, though, when I see media reports about how we'll be major movers and shakers.  We might, or we might not be.  I'm not getting my expectations up.

I was speaking more to the likelihood of us eventually landing a star with all of our assets rather than Danny growing impatient. At some point a star has to come on the market again that Danny likes.

Draft: 8 first rounders in next 5 years.

Cap space: $24 mil.

I am sure Ainge is going to try to get him.

But, chances are slim to none.

If Durant leaves, I've heard an awful lot about him going to play in DC, which is where he is from.

I would love nothing more than if Durant leaves, since it would probably do a ton of damage to the ownership's profit margins.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Sir Charles already called it .....when Durrant leaves OKC......that's it for that city .......they'll never get another player that good withe the coach they have.  It was pure luck ....like LeBron being both near Cleveland.  Bottom feeder for next 45 years ..till they go back to Seattle...then they get a bunch or firsts again.

The OKC program will go the wAy of the Old Hornets, got bunch of draft picks as a new club , made the playoff s.....once the stars got old or hurt ....it was over ...could not rebuild or maintain.

OKC ...will lose West Brooke too if KD leaves ....he ll leave for Lakers or Bulls

For Ainge to sign Durrant.....i

He has to sign Multiple stars .....like the big three era ....

History shows it will work ....look at Celtics and Heat

No way he gets Durrant to sign alone.....some how he'd have to have a plan to bring in at least one other great star to join him ....to interest Durrant .

I have no idea who or when or how ...just because you  can not see how , sure don't mean it can't happen.....we know very little compared to his info.....or else we'd all be on Celtic payroll

But ....not to try ....that's a definetly a LOSER attitude ....you can not whine and say ...boo hoo ...I it's not even worth trying

If DA doesn't at least try .....then he should be fired .....his job is get the BEST players he can

As much assets as DA has......he had to be in the running .

I'm one of the most optimistic posters on here, but I'm not holding my breath for Summer 2015.

With Rondo gone we have NOTHING...

"Gotta have something, if you want to be with me....."

Yes, we have draft picks...yes we have cap space...yes, we have some VERY GOOD to GOOD players....but take it from Billy Preston...

"Gotta have SOMETHING, if you want to be with me...."

I will always keep an open mind, but I'm prepared to do another Lean Years if needed.

Been there, done that.

With Rondo gone, it really is now time for Danny to cash in.

I'm just not sure we can land a marquee name but I'm hoping on hope that if we don't, we can at least get a couple of starter quality talent and we can start the rebuild.

We have picks and cap room. We should be able to land a good player by next year, either And up and comer or an established veteran.

Also, here's hoping the ping pongs be in our favor.

Do we have enough cap space next summer to offer two max contracts or is it just one?

If Green and Nelson opt out, Boston will be able to bring in a max contract and an additional good player salary.  That is where it can really make some noise in the off season.  There aren't many teams where two good players could go play together and where said players might actually want to go (the Lakers are another one such team).  That said I think 2016 is where Boston really makes it moves, as it has almost no salary on the books and will have two more years of high draft picks on the team.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

That's the thing.

We don't necessarily need a superstar like Durant. I mean it be nice, but we know it's not likely.

I guess I sorta subscribe to the theory if you can at least assemble yourself a list of good talent that might not be in the Lebron/Durant/A.Davis category but good talent nonetheless, that we still have as good a chance as anyone to win the East.

Sorta like the Reggie Jackson, Goran Dragic, Deandre Jordan, Al Jefferson, Robin Lopez, Greg Monroe class.

  • You say when......
Uhm,WHO leads the LEAGUE in assists..? Oh, right, anyone could do that......and he led the Celtics in REBOUNDS....anyone could do that......triple doubles...anyone could do that.....is that soooo, THEN WHY DOESN'T ANYONE ELSE DO IT......on a team that struggles to score or move, forget rebounding......do they pay this team..? KO, what, got paid for 3 games, then not again.....now, if any other team were to PRESS the Celtics...LOL....they wouldn't even be able to get the ball over 1/2 court as only rondo actually showed up day 1 with real ball handling skills.....I know, he should be able to do ALL this, AND score 30 points a game.....just like...??????? Well like no one ever....no one was on a sad team like this and produced anything....but, blsaming it on rondo feels good...huh....

Maybe we can play the hometown angle in 7-8 years when Nerlens Noel, Michael Carter-Williams, and Noah Vonleh are unrestricted free agents.

Quick answer...some of those picks were used to get KG and Ray Allen to get a Championship.
Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.
