The fact that is missed is that most of our bench players where the ones on the floor in the 4th quarter because they were on a roll, so singling out Rondo is foolish.
It is a thread about Rondo so I am not sure how I am singling him out. The fact is that the team at that moment in time played better after they took Rondo out. There are certainly other factors in play but if Rondo is the "build a contending team around him" guy; "best player on a contending team" guy, there should not be any situation where the team plays better in the 4th quarter of a close game with him out of the game.
It is not like they were trying to rest him for the second game of a back to back since they must have known that he was not going to Chicago anyway. Maybe Rondo was "winded" as suggested above. Maybe his hand was sore or his knee was sore. Or maybe the coach thought the team would play better with him on the bench.
In any of these cases, when it is your best player, it is a story and if that is "singling him out" then I say it comes with the territory. It is not like they chose to play Bass over Olynyk. They chose Pressey over Rondo and I am the "foolish" one to raise it as a question or to wonder about why? (yes, I took a little offense at that).
It is foolish singling him out because it was quite evident that Pressey was hot, that the whole bench unit was hot and Stevens was going along with it. There was no message about benching, etc., etc. This has been Stevens MO since he began here.
Pressey was having a very good game, Stevens didn't want to take him out. Big deal. And yes, they chose to play Bass over Olynyk. They chose to play Wallace over Green.
I mean, the only reason anyone would want to single out Rondo is because either they have an agenda against Rondo, or weren't paying attention to the flow of the game, and more importantly at how good Pressey was playing during that stretch (why take him out?)
Rondo had stopped moving the ball in the 3rd. Got pulled immediately after a bad pass to no one out of bounds, he also had jacked up an ugly three few plays before.
Stevens was sending a mini message and lucked out that Pressy played so well. In. Y opinion. Probably no hard feelings either way.
Other than you know, he was subbed out at the time when he is usually subbed out of the game, which is funny because Stevens had preached shorter stints for Rondo (5 minutes ones) and he keeps giving him 7-8 minute ones.
Correlation does not imply causation.
