It drives me nuts that people can't tell the difference between a team option and an unguaranteed year.  A contract in a sign-and-trade has to be at least three years, not including options.  So, you can't do a sign-and-trade for Kris Humphries with the third year as a team option.  You can do it with the final year wholly unguaranteed.

Why does it drive you nuts? Its not like the functional difference is huge.

It makes a significant difference if you want to trade him after two years.

Green is tradeable.  It's just Danny isn't getting as much as HE thinks Green is worth.   I'm not disagreeing with DA.   I'm just saying Jeff Green blows, and I'd trade him for less because I can't stand to watch him play another season.

1.Jeff Green can be a key piece or a X-factor if we had a super star to play with Rondo.
2. He could also be a key piece to a blockbuster trade. Doesn't he only make 10 mill? No reason to blow him off before his contract ends especially for nothing!

 Assuming DA's telling himself he'd be great if we can make him a 3rd or 4th option again, he'd be great to tip of a huge trade. No reaso nat alll to rush him out. There going to play it out  with green. Just like there doing with Rondo

A player who has a non-guaranteed contract can be traded before the start of that unguaranteed year, as long as he's still under said contract.  A player with an option (say, Chandler Parsons this past June) cannot.  This typically matters for draft night trades.

No, it'd be a TPE the size of the first year on Humphries' new contract (assuming the Wiz don't send any salary back in the deal).

If we were to get Turner for $4-4.5 million, it would make more sense to use the MLE.  Mind you, I'm not pro-Turner, but why create a trade when you don't need to?

Because with SnT you're making no stipulations about being over or under the luxury tax apron.

No... You're getting something for the TPE, and having to give something (at least a protected draft pick) to Indiana.  The MLE allows you to get something for less.  The TPE is more useful as it lasts longer and allows you to acquire players already on a contract to other teams.  The MLE is only for free agents.  There's no reason to forego the MLE for a TPE, unless you're planning on using the full amount of the MLE on someone else later, which the Celtics likely aren't (and couldn't, due to the hardcap).
