If Cavs pass on Embiid it is obvious that he will fall to us(6th pick). Because other teams have young and good centers, and they are hungry for success and have no patience to wait any longer. Besides, there are very good players in the draft.
Should we pass on Embiid? It depends on how serious his back injury is. As we have seen before, players who suffer from this kind of injury are required to have a surgery before they are 30 years old and they will have a shorter career after they are 30 years old. If Embiid can be effective until he is 30 after having one surgery, I think we'll draft him. After he is recovered from his foot injury, he'll probably have a back surgery and will miss the entire season. And we'll get Aşık for this year instead.
If he will not be able to play effective until he is 30 because of the surgery and if his back injury is serious, I think he will continue falling on in draft. In that case I guess we'll either draft Vonleh or Gordon.
I think our second draft choice is more important. If we can get either Kings' pick or Hornets' pick by giving 17th pick + Green(or +Faverani or future first round), we can consider ourselves successful in draft.
Another option is to get a late first round or an early second round pick for Bass. Then we can get a combo guard(like Bogdanovic and Markel Brown).
If now we are allowed to make trade with Clippers I'm sure Doc would want Bass. They are in "Win-Now" mode right now and it is difficult to draft a player who can be efficient immediately with 28th pick. If we can make a trade like this;
I assume Wiggins, Parker, Exum, and Smart would already be selected by the time it is our turn to draft;
With Embiid:
Rondo
Bradley/Bogdanovic
Gordon
Sully/Olynik
Aşık/Embiid
Without Embiid:
Rondo
Bradley/Bogdanovic
Gordon
Sully/Olynik
Vonleh
If we can have one of these squads we can look to the future with hope.
