Smart/Exum>Wiggins/Parker

Gordon + 17 >>>>>>>>> Wiggins/Parker

Not interested in the top-2 picks. The only wise move would be a trade up for Smart/Exum if the price isn't too high. Otherwise, Gordon is good value at #6. All the better if Smart falls into their laps at #6.

Jesus christ.

I'm sure Ainge has talked about everything.  That's his job.

Would love for us to get the #1 pick and select Wiggins or Parker. I don't think we have the assets to get it done though. Unless we are willing to trade #6, #17, Green, along with 1 of the BKN picks.

You mean, kind of what Ainge reportedly wanted to give MIN for Love?

I'm curious to hear why trading that package for Love is a bad idea, but trading it for a complete unknown is a good one.

Better financial terms under more team friendly terms.  No threat of the player walking into free agency after one season.  Potential cornerstone to help build around and continue the youth movement.  Most likely getting a wing player which is of greater need to the Celtics than another power forward.

Just things I'm thinking off the top of my head.

Blakely was on CSNNE right now and said that the offer would center around the 6 and 17 picks, along with Jeff Green. He also said the target is Wiggins.

so we would be trading 2-3 1st round picks plus Jeff Green to get a younger Jeff Green?

Only the first statement is irrefutable, though.

Everything else is subjective. That player could walk at the end of his rookie contract (granted, not after one season). He could be merely a good player, or a bust. And roster fit isn't an issue if Sullinger or KO and Bass are used to acquire Love.

Think that's what it would take to beat out Orlando's or Utah's offer. A Love-like package minus Sullinger and/or Olynyk. It would be very tempting. Wiggins and Parker are in a class of their own, far better prospects than anybody we could get at #6.

I completely, utterly, strongly disagree with that. Smart and Exum are better prospects IMO and Gordon is right there with them.

Surprised the target is Wiggins. I was under the impression that Ainge was in love with Parker. Of course, you can never know for sure. But Parker seems more of a Danny Ainge guy.

Ainge probably called and the Celtics made an offer, (just like pretty much every other team), but I don't think we have the pieces to beat what Orlando is currently offering unless we trade Rondo as part of the package.

So far we have heard the 5 and Favors for the first pick and 4, 12 and Afflalo for the first pick. Our package doesn't even come close to either of those.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Just throwing it out there.  You asked the question.

Pros & cons for both directions.  Both have inherent risks.

Yes, it's Blakely...here's the link:

http://www.csnne.com/blog/celtics-talk/source-celtics-interested-no-1-pick

This actually makes me pretty angry at Danny. He easily could have tanked harder to get us a better chance at a top pick. He very easily could have released Humphries and Bayless who were unrestricted free agents. That alone could have gotten us a few more losses...

So he chooses not to follow in the tracks of ORL, PHI, and MIL telling us that he's not really crazy about this draft class. And now he's trying to land the #1 pick??? What changed?

Not only did choosing not to tank take us out of the running for Parker and Wiggins, it also is now making it more difficult to make a trade for Love.

At this moment, Danny not tanking harder is looking like a huge mistake.

How could he possibly have tanked harder than PHI? Or MIL?

Start the season with that as the priority (Just like PHI) and make moves during the season with that as the priority (just like PHI, et al)

Many advocated for this all season.

Oh, you mean fire sale all of the talent on the team for pennies on the dollar in a desperate attempt at the #1 pick? Not Ainge's style, never has been.

Didn't work out very well for PHI. They ended up #3, in a draft that's recently turned into a two-horse auction.

I  was answering how Danny could have tanked harder than PHI and MIL . I don't think a fire sale was necessary. IMO if he released Bayless and Humph who  aren't even ours and limited Rondo's pt we would have been more serious tankers.

That's certainly debatable, however. What's not debatable is that Danny didn't tank and stated that he wasn't impressed with the top of this draft.

Now he's struggling to trade for Love and looking to trade up for players he routinely said he wasn't impressed by (a position  supported by his decision to not tank).

Very frustrating for fans who argued for a different course along the way.

Why didn't Danny realize that Wiggins and Parker were premium prospects? Why didn't Danny realize he was going to need a better pick to pry Love away from Minny?

Wouldn't this just to get the pick to trade it for Love?    I can't believe they want anyone more than Love.

I just can't see it happening. We'd have to include multiple bkn picks imo

1. Rondo did not help us win any games at all last season, so lets not use that as an excuse.
2. Danny traded Crawford. Had we kept him, we would have won 3-5 more games.

I think Danny did all he could to tank without making it blatantly obvious that we were tanking. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the ping pong balls.
