we had centers but Doc drove them all away -- Semih, Krystic, Darko, etc

Franchise cornerstones right there. if only Doc gave them the chance!
You forgot Mikki Moore we could have had Banner 18 already
And Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal. Heck, Doc hated them so much he trotted them out when they were playing practically on one leg.

I don't know if he drove him away but exiling Krstic, a guy who had been good enough to start for OKC in the Western conference playoffs, to the bench couldn't exactly have made him excited to stay in Boston.

If you could strike while the iron was hot, yes.  There was a time when Bynum was certainly the most complete Center in the NBA and at least the 2nd best overall at the position.  Even as dominant as Dwight was at this time, with some flaws in his game I rather would have had Bynum.

It'd just be a rush because there was a small window where this was the case.

Not the best argument for a player being quality.  Should we have hypothetically signed Fisher and played him big minutes this year too?

You 100% draft Bynum. You can trade him while his value is high, and since you know he's a knucklehead, who will break down physically, you don't have to wonder if he'll get better after 4 years.

I said no earlier but if you're drafting truly with intent to trade him then I'll change my mind.

Yeah, this is my thought.  I mean, Bynum got traded for Dwight Howard.  If we're guaranteed Bynum's production, then you get one great season out of him and deal him for a star.

I guess this implies the way Krstic played for us looked good to you? You clearly don't remember that time very well.

I don't need to be a doctor to read the numerous articles written on athletes having the procedure Embiid had.  6 months to walk (the bone in his foot is the slowest healing in the body)....12 months to play....and you can add a year to regain muscle/conditioning and to learn some of the NBA game.  Embiid has been playing basketball for a little over four years...a year (according to numerous articles) is a long time to be away from the game not to mention muscle atrophy.

If Embiid is there at 6 I take him no questions asked. Who else would we take, Aaron Gordon?  Julius Randle? To heck with midgets. and dinosaur arm players.

^this all day! it's the reason why I believe D Rose will never be the same.

but in Embiid's case, he was going to be a project to begin with even without the back injury. now he has this new injury that has proven to be too much for some pretty talented players in the past to recover from.

only way I take this dude is late 1st, early 2nd. there's red flag's and there's some really big red flags.

with that said, we take whoever at 6, with all those red flags, IF and only IF he falls to 17, I think you gotta take him. But then again, He's so good, I do not think he will fall out of lotto

...  and even in kind of the best-case scenario (able to play in 12 months, playing back to his potential in 24), you're looking at the kid being halfway through his rookie contract before he's really able to contribute.  A big part of what makes the draft so important is getting good production from a guy that's making a fraction of what it would cost for a veteran.

IF Embiid is any good, by the time you've figure that out you're already having to think about his pending free agency.

No.

Even before the injuries,  he was not a clear cut first pick.   There were still a lot of people who rays Wiggins and Parker above him.  He's an extremely raw prospect and (to me) was always a high risk at one.   If you could on top of that guarantee that he's going to have a Bynum like career... He'll yes,  I'd pass.

In past weak drafts you'd take the gamble.   In a draft with this much depth though there is just tooc much talent available.   Guys like Smart, Randle, Exum and Vonleh have future all star potential,  yet all are projected to go out of the top 3.  That's a ton of talent,  just not worth paying up on such a high risk player.

If you aren't certain that his career will be injury plagued and his injury report more or less plays out ok,  then yes id take a gamble.
