If you had a guarantee that the career of Embiid health wise would mirror that of Andrew Bynum would you take him with the #6 or trade up to take him at 4?

trade up to get him. if he doesnt pan out, so be it. we have a million other picks in the next couple years.

Right now.....I'm thinking take Vonleh and don't look back

He has No glaring issues

He is young

He is 100 % healthy

He can help the Celtics right now and probably more latter

He will get better

He is the best big man not named Parker that is not hurt and has upside.

I think we have to take him...if he is there at the six

No Embiid .......bad idea.

Agreed.  We have 9 first round picks in the next 5 drafts.  It's worth potentially growing away a pick for chance of drafting the next Hakeem.  Yes, I just compared him to Hakeem... and I stand by it.

Do anything you can to get him. Gordon/Smart isn't bringing you to the promised land. Embiid has the chance to. If it doesn't work out, it's okay because you weren't going to win the ring without someone like him anyway.

Try to trade the pick for Love, if you can't then trade Rondo and Green for picks and start over with Embiid, 17(guard), Sullinger, Olynyk, 2015 pick and the picks you get from Rondo and/or Green.

In this magical world of guarantee we will draft him and then trade him at just the right time, while we also buy low and sell high on a lot of stocks. Good times.

All this yawning about Embiid reminds me of two years ago, when Sully was projected to go top 10 so nobody ever formed an attachment to him.

When draft day came, most people had full on crushes for Royce White or Andrew Nicholson. When those second rate prospects went before pick 21, Sully dropping all the way from top 10 to 21 was small compensation.

Because Embiid was the consensus and undisputed runaway favorite to be the #1 pick, people are now slow to warm up to him now that we might actually have a chance to get him. Just like when people convinced themselves Andrew Nicholson and Royce White were better prospects than Sullinger.

I think Front Offices fall into this psychological trap as well, which is why White and Nicholson got drafted so high.

At the most extreme, falling into this trap can cause you to make a promise to a guy like JR Giddens, when you don't leave open the possibility of guys projected to be drafted much higher (DeAndre Jordan, Mario Chalmers) might actually fall to you.

Does that mean we assume Embiid is a jackass who hates basketball?

Bynum can still play right now, like Oden can.

The same thing happened last year, when KO was projected to never be within our grasp on draft night. Many tears were shed that night.

Same thing when Avery Bradley unexpectedly fell to us. Most people had their heart set on some scrub who probably isn't even in the league anymore.

If the Celtics had won the draft lottery, our fanbase would be a whole lot higher on Embiid right now, even with the injuries.

No Embiid .......bad idea.

He's undersized (And god am I tired of undersized players),  not an athletic talent, turned the ball over quite a bit, lacks awareness on the court, gets into foul trouble early, and we already have 2 young PF prospects. So yes there are issues. Joel Embiid is lightyears above Vonleh if healthy and there is a chance he could turn into a Hakeem Olajuwan-lite. And if there is even a 50% chance of him becoming that I'd still pick Embiid.

Plus, Vonleh wants to play in the perimeter.

Ugh.

This article by a Lakers blog or whatever could help with clearing up some misconceptions between the two players.  For example, I didn't know that Bynum had been having knee problems since he was 12 :o  His attitude is also atrocious, and he's a pretty lazy player who has close to no speed or quickness.  Even in his younger years, I don't ever remember seeing Bynum running the floor like Embiid can.  Yes, his skill on the block was very impressive, but he did work with Kareem, so that shouldn't have been too much of a surprise.

Also, Embiid is a good kid who, according to Bill Self, is an incredibly quick learner.  So to answer your question - yeah, I would draft him.  In a heartbeat.  Anyway, here's the link -

Except he wasn't, but don't let that get in the way of your nice story.

Take away his back concerns, yes he was the undisputed #1 pick.  Even with the back concerns before the foot injury, he was still the likely #1 pick ahead of two outstanding prospects in Wiggins and Parker.
