Because Embiid was the consensus and undisputed runaway favorite to be the #1 pick, people are now slow to warm up to him now that we might actually have a chance to get him.
Except he wasn't, but don't let that get in the way of your nice story.

Take away his back concerns, yes he was the undisputed #1 pick.  Even with the back concerns before the foot injury, he was still the likely #1 pick ahead of two outstanding prospects in Wiggins and Parker.
Was he a possible first overall pick? Sure. Was he the probable Cavs selection? Perhaps. Was he the "consensus" and "undisputed runaway"? Nah, probably not.

I dont understand people against Embiid. We havent had a true center on this team since Perk, and im tired of midget lineup, undersized players, and throwing out beefy PF's to try to bang down low in the paint (Looking at you bass and sully).

GET A CENTER GAH!

we had centers but Doc drove them all away -- Semih, Krystic, Darko, etc

They weren't exactly the cream of the crop.

If the Celtics had won the draft lottery, our fanbase would be a whole lot higher on Embiid right now, even with the injuries.

False. I'd be crying for Parker.

It's a tough call for me. I don't believe all these doctors saying the broken foot is no big deal.

They may be wrong or they may be right.  It's a gamble.  Worth it for the Celtics in my opinion.

I don't mean we'd definitely pick Embiid after this foot injury, I just mean we'd be higher on Embiid in general, than what seems to be the ho hum sentiment around here.

I hope he falls to us, and you are right.
I think someone will pick him before he gets to us, however.

Before the injury, I thought Embiid looked like Hakeem Olajawon.

Right now.....I'm thinking take Vonleh and don't look back

He has No glaring issues

He is young

He is 100 % healthy

He can help the Celtics right now and probably more latter

He will get better

He is the best big man not named Parker that is not hurt and has upside.

I think we have to take him...if he is there at the six

No Embiid .......bad idea.

He's undersized (And god am I tired of undersized players),  not an athletic talent, turned the ball over quite a bit, lacks awareness on the court, gets into foul trouble early, and we already have 2 young PF prospects. So yes there are issues. Joel Embiid is lightyears above Vonleh if healthy and there is a chance he could turn into a Hakeem Olajuwan-lite. And if there is even a 50% chance of him becoming that I'd still pick Embiid.

Plus, Vonleh wants to play in the perimeter.

Ugh.

It seems like folks are anti center these days but between 3 guys who wanted to play post, Shaq, Duncan, and Hakeem, 11 titles were won from 1992 on. Not to mention that their teams were highly competitive otherwise. So I want Embiid if he can pass a physical. I think I'd pass on centers who don't want to play post.

Franchise cornerstones right there. if only Doc gave them the chance!
