we had centers but Doc drove them all away -- Semih, Krystic, Darko, etc

Franchise cornerstones right there. if only Doc gave them the chance!
You forgot Mikki Moore we could have had Banner 18 already

Absolutely. Bynum is probably the best player in the game, just about. He's had some difficulties with injuries and such, but when he's 100% he's a lock for the finals no matter who you put around him.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
You 100% draft Bynum. You can trade him while his value is high, and since you know he's a knucklehead, who will break down physically, you don't have to wonder if he'll get better after 4 years.

This article by a Lakers blog or whatever could help with clearing up some misconceptions between the two players.  For example, I didn't know that Bynum had been having knee problems since he was 12 :o  His attitude is also atrocious, and he's a pretty lazy player who has close to no speed or quickness.  Even in his younger years, I don't ever remember seeing Bynum running the floor like Embiid can.  Yes, his skill on the block was very impressive, but he did work with Kareem, so that shouldn't have been too much of a surprise.

Also, Embiid is a good kid who, according to Bill Self, is an incredibly quick learner.  So to answer your question - yeah, I would draft him.  In a heartbeat.  Anyway, here's the link -

Yeah, Bynum was and is a head case, but when healthy, he was a heckuva center.  We really had no answer for him during the finals we lost to the Lakers in.  And let's not forget he was not playing in the 2008 finals.  I agree he was not as athletic as Embiid, but he was more of a post player.

I forgot we had Darko.  Talk about a waste of talent.

Where is he now? Out of the league, right?

Embiid has a lot more potential than Bynum.  And BBguro0 is a troll.

At the top of a draft you draft for realistic upside. That's because a superstar is worth 10x as much as a solid starter in this league. By realistic upside I mean top 30th percentile outcome.

Embiid has by far the best 30th percentile outcome in this draft. Even if he also has a 30% chance of busting, well, I'd rather take that chance than to pick a future role player with only theoretical upside, like Wiggins.

Bynum might be a knucklehead but that never got in the way of him being the best player he could be.  The guy has poop knees.  Being a knucklehead has no bearing on his career.

Smarts going to be a stud and Rondo isn't waiting two years for Embiid to become physically ready.....I pass on Embiid and if he continues to drop try to move up with the 17 and future assets.  Centers are dying and its a point guard league.....that said next year I believe has more Center prospects.

And Shaq and Jermaine O'Neal. Heck, Doc hated them so much he trotted them out when they were playing practically on one leg.

Where did you get the idea that Embiid won't be physically ready for two years, Dr. Smart?
