Barring bad med news, Celts would love if Embiid available at 6. Coincidentally, franchise took Bird as jr eligible at same spot in '78.

Bird didn't have a broken foot or bad back in 1978..stay away from Embiid unless C's want to tank again and wait on him like Philly did with Noel

That would b the idea. He's out for 4-6 months now anyway. The question is if he can come back healthy. The record is not good for players who have had this type of stress fracture. The only difference here is that Embiid is quite young and may heal faster/better.

Sure there is.  We had to wait for a year after drafting Larry before he played for us, not that I'm complaining.  That's where the comparison ends, though.  Someone beat me to it earlier when they said that it could turn out to be like when Blake had surgery on his kneecap and missed what would have been his rookie year. 

On the other hand, Oden also had surgery and missed the entire 07-08 season, and we all know how things played out after that.

I'd still take Embiid, though, if he's there.  His talent is just too much to pass up, imho.

I would too.  It's a huge roll of the dice, but opportunities like this are rare.  If Embiid turns out to be Greg Oden then so be it. Try something else.

Exactly, if Embiid is a bust, then we will still have a lot of young players, draft picks, and cap space opening up.  If he lives up to his potential, we will have a very bright future.

QUESTION: Does Rondo/Love get you a championship? Prolly not.  Now, how about Rondo/Love/Melo?  I'm not sure, especially in a Lebron Eastern Conference.

I think Rondo/Love/Melo could win a championship, but I don't know how we get Melo after trading for Love.  It would need to be in a sign and trade with the Knicks taking on Wallace and Green.  There's no way the Knicks take on both of those contracts, regardless how many picks we send them, when they intend on being contenders in next year's free agent market.

A lot of people loathe the idea of a rebuild, but I enjoy watching talented young players develop.

Doesn't that put his return at October 20th?    The season doesn't start until October 30th.

Of course, that's probably super unlikely to happen.  He's probably out an entire season.

A Sports Illustrated article on the matter leads me to believe that the bone will take 4 months to heal.   Then you need to rehab, then get into basketball shape.  I suspect he will be out for the season even if it's to play it safe.

"The majority of these injuries will heal completely," Hunt said.

"Getting to it early is a good prognostic sign. In his case, it appears it was treated early and appropriately. In the cases I have seen, the athletes that have recurrent fractures have high arches and stiff feet. They can develop large spurs in the adjacent bones. But again, to the majority of athletes this will heal and not be an issue in the future."

That article is very encouraging.  I believe Ming didnt get it taken care of right away.  He opted for rest and then played for the Chinese in the summer.  Walton's injury was 35 years ago and the treatment has certainly improved.  Ilgauskas did make a full recovery.  It's actually only a few examples where the problem lingered, they just happen to be high profile examples.
Embiid certainly comes with risk, but I think it is worth it for the Celtics.

No, they have Vucevic and need a point guard.  They'll have the option to draft Exum or Smart.  They may try to con the Celtics into trading up for Embiid assuming their guy will still be there at 6.

I think there's a good chance Embiid will be there at 6 especially once you break down the teams 1-5

Cleveland - Wiggins or Parker
Bucks - Wiggins or Parker
Philly - Exum is too talented to pass up and could form an exciting backcourt with MCW
           Another possibility I read somewhere - trade with the Bucks w/ bucks getting Exum
           They already have Noel, there's too much talent to be had to gamble on Embiid
Orlando - Smart (possibly Exum if he falls). With Vucevic, it's too risky to gamble on Embiid
            when they can draft Smart.  They need a point guard, not a center.
Bucks - They already have Favors and Kanter.  These two were terrible on the court together
            because each player is a better center than PF.  They could actually use a true PF such as
            Vonleh or Randle.  Drafting Embiid would add to the log jam. 

The teams 3-5 all have young talented centers.  None have Embiid's potential, but they have huge needs at other positions and there is so much talent in this draft, I can't believe drafting Embiid is worth the risk for them.

I think it's all context. At 6, I think you should take the risk to draft a potential #1 overall. Now, if it was a guy like Aaron Gordon who was an injury risk, you don't take him at #6. However, if you were drafting say at #15? I could see how you would take the risk on a guy like Gordon.

They have the 23rd pick.  I doubt that factors into the decision.
