poor Mexico

No sympathy for Mexico whatsoever.  They were lucky to even be in this World Cup, thanks to the USA of all countries.

I won't say that I am some huge fan of Holland, but I do generally like to see them do well.  Always enjoyed their style of play.  Mexico on the other hand, screw them.

Except they showed that they belong in the World Cup. Great performances against Brazil and Croatia, both teams we can agree are better than Mexico.

And then against Holland, they had them on their boots for 80+ minutes. And to lose like that, on a questionable penalty call, its the Tevez offside goal all over again.

You're right, they did lucked in into the Cup, but give credit for what they did. They played really well and looked like a deserving team.

Not sure I agree with that, Yoki.  I think the referee missed the penalty on Robben in the first half and then awarded him that penalty at the end for a classic Robben dive with minimal contact.  Sometimes, these things even out... :)

I also believe that Mexico were a bit naive in the second half.  Maybe they felt too much of the heat and humidity to press in the second half, but either continue pressing or "park the bus" at least when you get to 75-80 minute mark.

Sneijder had all day to line up that shot - no one tracked him.  That's just poor defending...

The wasn t in a position to see that markez just touched roben. Inreal time i think everyone thought it was a penalty. His assistant on the other hand had clear view amd should have said something.

After the match Robben insisted the incident which won the game was a justified penalty, but admitted going to ground far too easily on one occasion in the first half.

"I must apologise," he told NOS. "The one [at the end] was a penalty, but the other one was a dive in the first half. I shouldn't be doing that."

a) Just goes to show how 7 different people have 7 different opinions on the same call, and that's with countless reviews from all kinds of angles. Being a football referee is a lot tougher than people think.

b) goal.com? ewww
Where common sense goes to have a slow and painful death
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

[dang]

Costa Rica almost had it.

Hopefully they can keep their composure and finish off this awful Greek team.  Can't stand watching them play.  Probably going to be difficult though, playing a man down as long as they have been.

Julio Cesar was great in that penalty shootout. Barely played this year. QPR ignored him. Moved to Toronto. Hardly any first team football. Stepped up huge in penalty shootout.

Bravo was very good too. Psyched out Brazil's guys with his antics. Pointing which direction he was going to go and getting inside their heads. I read that Barcelona have signed him. Paid ?9 million. 31 years old.

Who will start - Bravo or ter Stegen?

Most definitely ter Stegen. One of the best young keepers in the world, costs more money, was signed much earlier.

I would assume the same.  However, I believe ter Stegen (boy is he huge!) was acquired for
10-11 million euros.  Peanuts, if you ask me.

I thought it was 15. Anyway, I've seen both, ter Stegen is better. He already has a few caps for Germany, too.

No, it's all in the game, and as I said before, I like that.
