Really happy Brazil have gotten through this.

Disappointed one of these teams had to go out today. Two of my favourites in this World Cup. Pity they had to meet in first knockout stage.

The word i was looking for.... painful indeed

But that s football.

The best thing about the extra time and the shootout is that there is less waiting for the next game

Julio Cesar was great in that penalty shootout. Barely played this year. QPR ignored him. Moved to Toronto. Hardly any first team football. Stepped up huge in penalty shootout.

Bravo was very good too. Psyched out Brazil's guys with his antics. Pointing which direction he was going to go and getting inside their heads. I read that Barcelona have signed him. Paid ?9 million. 31 years old.

Always bitter to go out on penalties, both teams deserved to go through.

Was a great shoot-out, though. If every match in the KOs is like this one, we have one helluva WC to look forward to.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

He'll most likely be Ter Stegen's back-up, though

Luiz Gustavo suspended for next game. Yellow cards. Major loss.

So that means Henrique will replace him next game. Only player who can play that role for that Brazil. Last man in on Brazil's WC squad. Usually plays central defender. Now needs to play in midfield in WC quarter final for Brazil. Big, big question mark.

Why not Ramirez?

I doubt Scolari is bold enough to use David Luiz in the midfield and Dante as CB

Ramires, Fernandinho and Paulinho have all struggled in that role when tried there in previous matches. All are more box-to-box midfielders than destroyer types and struggle to shift back into defense as Gustavo does to protect wing backs.

I don't think Scolari breaks up the Luiz-Silva partnership defensively. They have been a rock for Brazil. Too valuable to break up.

Apparently, Scolari trusts Henrique. Coached him at club level in Brazil. Prior to tournament, said Henrique can double up as 4th choice CB and 2nd choice DMC. So Henrique will likely be the one that gets the role and responsibility.

Wellhis midfield is certainly not working. And what sthe use of covering the backs when they are doing such a poor job attacking.

Change to more defensive backs and insert a midfielder that can push  the ball forward. He needs much more than neymar's magic to win the wc. I think it willbe a deja vu of 2004 for him....

It's a shame Luis Suarez got himself suspended. This match would have been all the richer with him on the field. Great player.
