Not much to say. Poor Switzerland is getting slaughtered.
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

CONCACAF representing.

After 2 games
Costa Rica with 6 points
Mexico with 4 points

After 1 game
United States with 3 points
Honduras with 0 points

Not a bad start for a "lesser" group of nations.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

In the long run it's good news. The better the teams do in the tournament, the (relatively) more slots they end up with next time.

I thought England was out before today's Italy game.  Can someone explain by what tiebreaker England would have made it over Uruguay had Italy won today and then England beat Costa Rica?

Doesn't head to head trump total goals?

Edit:  nevermind, forgot Uruguay lost its first game....

Teams that are tied on points have placings decided by goal difference, hence why England could have ended up with 3 points along with Costa Rica and beaten Costa Rica by enough goals to ensure a higher placing.

All academic now though.

ESPN just showed a replay of the Costa Rica/Italy match.  Man, am I impressed with those Ticos.  No stars, just smart, hard nosed football.  They frustrated Italy and got in a zone.  By the second half, it seemed like all their passes were hitting their mark and they were winning most challenges.  They stayed calm and cool and played like they were supposed to get that result.  The game never had that desperate "please, let's just hang on" quality that you often see from the underdogs.

Hats off to the Costa Ricans.

Time to step up your game, Argentina.

Enjoying Iran's performance today.

Strong defensively and starting to create a few opportunities in attack.

Iran deserves a goal.

Other than DiMaria  the other Argentinian stars are non factors.  They should flank more since through the middle is impossible to do anything and also attempt more shots from long range. I Don t remember seeing a single overlap... How do they expect to create chances with 7 defenders in the box at all times?

Yes, tough luck for Iran, but that was an absolutely sick strike by the greatest player in the world.
