I have to say, all the talk about the climate before the WC seems to have been spot on. The tactics, the "america's" strength, the generally slower build up play...all signs for the climate being a huge factor in this WC.

...

1-0 Nigeria
In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

That was sad.

Bosnia gets screwed on a terrible offside call, and then Nigeria gets a goal.

Terrible...

...and with some distance to the Germany match, I really hope Lahm can snap out of his little funk. The first game wasn't too bad, aside from the obvious mistake in the first half, but he was pretty bad in this one.

B and H clearly got hosed by that bogus off sides call that took away a goal, but I didn't see anything to complain about on Emenike's swim move to beat his man and create Nigeria's goal.

I think it would be ideal if he could return to his normal position as a full back. But the with problems with def mid he is the next best  thing. A healthy Guidogan would have secured a place in the semis at least

For greek standards is relatively new city :D But you are right.... It could have been a lot worst !! I like what i`ve seen so far...... well apart from the weather that is !

A U.S. win tomorrow and they are the first team from the group of death to advance.  That would be huge.  Portugal will definitely be up for the game though.

Altidore traveled with the U.S., probably not a good sign for his chances of playing again in the tournament.  You would think he would have stayed in Sao Paolo and rehabbed if he wasn't that injured.

It's hard to see him playing again. He's too much of an injury risk when you have so few subs.

Haha!

I was in Frankfurt for 3 days the last week of May, and was not pleased with the weather. Cold and rainy. Holland had better weather. And don't even get me started on how much better the weather was in Italy and Switzerland.

Fressgass Fest was fun though.

Well good weather is not of germany's qualities.  But when you have a good job offer you take it

Back on the topic Lukaku should try play better instead of arguing with his coach for the sub

 ;D

Yeah, Gundogan is the big one. His back problems seem to be chronic, though, so he might never get back to his top form.

Lahm in defensive midfield per se is not the problem, imo, but it is in the context of the current team. Lahm is the only DM, atm, so we're lacking physicality there. The false 9 forces us to rely on the OM for creativity, and if nothing comes from there, we can't even play over the wings, certainly not with our defensive full-backs. Leaning on my armchair, I think Loew analyzed the circumstances perfectly, and then made a lot of bad decisions in consequence...and I'm usually a fan of Loew.

I think it's time to move Lahm back to full-back, and bring Schweinsteiger and Klose back into the starting 11. Then again, we have no real back-up for Klose, so if we have to sub him, we're left without a real Plan B. Quite frankly, it's a bit of a mess.
