I think Klynyk is starting to find himself as an NBA player.  I'm hoping he can continue to improve over the rest of the season.

He looks to have lost a little of the baby fat.   I think he still needs a lot of work on his body though.  It can only help him.

Because most of the time he kind of sucks at basketball.

And, some of the time he's really good at basketball.  I expect the "good" to start outweighing the "suck" at some point soon.

The truth is that, generally speaking, unless they are Tim Duncan or Lebron James, rookies kind of suck at NBA basketball.

No.

Rookies who played four years of college ball almost always kind of suck at NBA basketball (these days).

Someone else brought up Divac. I think JV Vlade is a best case scenario for Kelly--as in, I'd be thrilled if he hit that.

Divac was considerably longer, stronger, and more athletic than Olynyk. Probably more skilled, too. Heck, an older Divac at Sacramento was even able to play Shaq quite nicely.

Hence "JV" Vlade. Like "Junior Varsity." Like "not good enough to make the good team"

Rookies who played four years of college ball generally suck.  Rookies who played one year, two years, or three years of college ball generally suck as well.

Sometimes they don't though, like last year's Rookie of the Year, who played pretty well in his first NBA season after four years at Weber State.

Of course, often times, players who "sucked' during their rookie year end up being much better in their second, third, or fourth year of pro ball.

There's hope for Kelly yet.

C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

Ko is not like divac. Divac had more length, was more physical but had less quickness.

KO is similar to brad miller in terms of skillset. Same kind of body also(narrow shoulders).

I hope he becomes as good as miller. Miller had a long career

Some perhaps important perspective here:

The #13 pick in a weak draft doesn't have to become an All-Star -- or even a consistent starter -- to be a solid pick.

Kelly is well on his way to becoming a useful, productive player.  I have little doubt that he has what it takes to stick around in this league as a quality role player.  That's pretty good.

Jared Sullinger is the exception, not the rule.  If you find a core piece outside of the top 10, that's a steal.

Ok.......so KO is no Garrnet.......

I think DA made a huge haul getting a young 7 ft player who can play ........he was nota lotto pick and he is a better basket ball player than Steven Adams who has all stars to play beside him.

Just how many 7 foot tall players or FA s do you see begging to live in Boston ?     Name em ?  Maybe Fab Melo ?

That's right ......None worth a flip

We are lucky to have this guy .....period.

Better than Adams? On what basis?

Except he was.

He was, although the Celtics were sitting at #16 and really didn't have to give up anything of significant value to move up and get him.

Per the eye test, I think Brad Miller was much, much better at finishing around the rim and in traffic.

Divac was faster than KO, as good if not better at passing, and not a total liability on defense.

Like I said, if Olynyk hits JV Divac status, I'll be pumped.

Diva  was not faster nor had better agility. KO would beat him from one end of the court to the other. For pnr, he can spin quicker into the basket and move side to side better

I never said miller and ko are exactly the same. But similar. Miller btw was not a top rebounder and learned to finish around the basket . He scored/operated alot of the time, on top of the perimeter like KO

Kelly has already put up some very nice games as a rookie who has missed a significant portion of the first 40 or so games here.

I'm good with his development thus far.

In general, I'm interested to see how far he comes after a full season of ball and a long summer of hitting the weights hard.

he could come back much improved next season.

Kelly just has to put it all together. We should be happy. Some rookies dont even score 20 or get 7 assists until their 2nd years. Or if ever

Olynyk needs to string 2 good games. Then  3. Etc.
5 straight games is a good mark to prove consistency
