I think this is all a bit silly.
To this point Rondo has been amazingly well mannered considering he is a multi-time all star going through a rebuild with only a couple of years of contract yet.
Rondo reminds me of KG in terms of his personality - he's big on pride and loyalty. Up until now people have talked about Rondo as the best player on his team, but there have always been debates. So many people out there still talk about Rondo being a guy who only was successful as he was because he played with Pierce and KG (and previously, Ray). I think Rondo has too much pride to just leave and join another group of stars elsewhere, which would only re-enforce that view in the eyes of the public...the view that he's not good enough to build around and not good enough to carry a team.
I think Rondo wants to prove that this isn't true. I think he wants this to be (unquestionably) HIS team. I think he wants to prove that he can be a leader and elevate his game, and make others around him better (even when those guys aren't All Stars themselves).
People here are talking about Rondo ditching boston and joining other stars elsewhere, but he has not shown even the slightest sign that he has any such intention. Absolutly, you never know what's going on in a player's mind..but he has said all the right things, and he has stuck by the team and shown his face on the bench at every game, even to the point of being willing to play in the D league to get himself into game shape (something that chumps like Royce White have refused to lower themselves to).
I think that too this point Rondo has been the ultimate reflection of loyalty and professionlism. If he does decide to sign elsewhere than he has that right, and I wouldn't hold it against him because unlike the Carmello's he hasn't gone and created a media situation over his upcoming free agency, he hasn't gone creating stories, hasn't gone causing a stir. He's been professional the whole way.
I say we owe him the benefit of the doubt unless he shows us otherwise.
