Olynyk will need to earn his time back. Hump, Bass, Fav and Sully have been playing well collectively and individually which has led to team success.
You don't hand back playing time to a rookie that was playing in an underwhelming manner before he got hurt simply because he is returning. Long term, its probably in Olynyk's best interest to have to compete and beat out someone else for the playing time than to just be given that playing time.
If he's as good as some of KO's fans think he is, this can only be a good thing and will make him better overall. Let's not hurt his long term development simply because some fan boys think he should be getting the time right away, without earning it. Make him earn it, it will toughen him up and set the right overall tone in the locker room.
Exactly! I don't get how KO became a shoe in as a starter...right now he's not.
well, well, well...this is an interesting board. how many threads did we have to put to sleep over the past few years that moaned about doc, and therefore the celtics team, never played rookies?

now, stevens shouldn't play rookies just because vets are looking good.
in this case, i think olly should play since he is the future and the more he plays the faster he develops. i find it harder to argue that a lack of playing time will benefit olly's development.
olly's stats per 36 are:
11.9 points
8.7 rebounds
2.5 assists
humphries per 36 numbers are better over all, but not dramatically so. it is not as if using olly in place of humphries makes no basketball sense.
humphries per 36:
12.9 points
10.4 rebounds
1.5 assists
where olly is weak right now is shooting percentage. (though on FT he is 100% !!!) olly is a shooter, more time will help him develop just that much faster i think.
hump is gone next year. vitor's MADE to be a back up, a nice one by the way. this year is about progress and growth. olly is a big investment for the celtcs, the win-loss record doesnt matter in the long run, i think stevens should play him often and according to matchup, etc.
