Is this Hayward stuff actually based on anything or is it just the coach-player connection?  That seems to be about it from what I just read.

Yeah, I've never heard anything about Ainge liking Hayward.

[Although, league rules probably discourage Ainge from saying much about Hayward. Plus, Ainge is pretty cagey.]

If he was a legit FA instead of a RFA the coach-player connection would mean something to me.  At this point it doesn't mean much.

Someone mentioned Eric Gordon before and he basically publicly begged to go to the Suns, saying he was in love with the whole prospect, and then went right back to New Orleans.

Right, because he had to.

Gordon signed an offer sheet with Phoenix.  New Orleans matched.

That's how a restricted free agency works (for those wondering earlier in the thread).  A restricted free agent can sign an offer sheet with the team of his choice.  The offer sheet is a proposed contract that the new team can legally sign the player to under CBA rules.  The old team has a few days to decide on whether or not they want to match it.  If the old team matches, the offer sheet becomes a contract with the old team.  If the old team declines to match, it becomes a contract with the new team.

Yep.

If making sure he came here meant paying him the max.... not loving that idea at all unless he shows some improvement this year.  But it'd be like 9 million for his years in the league right?  It's not terrible.

Yes I'm aware.  Which means probably overpaying him, which I'm not interested in doing.

If he was a FA he could maybe come here for a discount or less than other teams were offering at least if he really wanted to play for Stevens.

----

EDIT: I guess the issue is I really haven't seen enough of Hayward to say either way.  I definitely haven't seen enough of his defense, which some say is so terrible.

Last season, Gordon Hayward combined for 1.61 blocks, charges, and steals per game. Jeff Green combined for 1.64.

DefRtgs: Hayward, 104; Green, 100.2.

Yeah, if you look at a majority of their stats, they're not too far apart.

The major thing I like about Hayward is that he can play the 2 and I think we'll have the hardest time finding a legit player for that position.  3s are practically falling from the sky.  It would be nice to have someone who could play defense at a high level, though

Wonder if we could trade the following:

Rondo
Lee

for

Hayward
2014 1st (Utah is currently 0-3)
Jefferson (expiring 11M contract)
Burke

Yes, we trade Rondo, but the return is good. Hayward is 23 and Burke is 20. Plus, adding Utah's 1st would give us 2 lottery picks in the 1st rd. In addition, we get rid of Lee's deal.

Gordon Hayward certainly makes the most of his limited athletic ability.

You think he has limited athletic ability? I think he is very athletic actually.

This year, Kevin Love came in first, with 24.1 percent of the vote. Marc Gasol came in second; Matt Bonner and Jared Dudley tied for third, and J.J. Barea rounded out the top five. In a league where nearly four of five players are black, four of these five guys—Love, Gasol, Bonner, and Barea—are white. (Dudley's biracial.)

 ;D

Hayward isn't on that list. But let's compare his predraft measurements to Gerald Green, a similar sized player who is considered a freak athlete and a guy we're quite familiar with.

No Step Vert-
Green 31.5
Hayward 30.5

Vert-
Green 39
Hayward 34.5

Lane Agility-
Green 11.2
Hayward 11.7

3/4 Sprint-
Green 3.2
Hayward 3.2

Bench (185)-
Green 7
Hayward 10

That's... exactly the point?

Not following your train of thought. Gerald Green is considered an elite athlete. You stated Hayward has "limited athletic ability". Do you think the 4.5 inch difference in running vert, and similar numbers else well, means Hayward has limited athleticism?  For example, Wade had 31.5 (no step vert) and 35 during his predraft measurements. Very comparable to Hayward's 30.5 and 34.5.

It's a joke.

It's a joke.

It's a joke. Because Hayward is white. Just like Kevin Love, who is, you know, outrageously athletic (and the child of athletes). As is Steve Nash, who is, you know, outrageously athletic (and the child of athletes). As are most of the people in the NBA. But, because they're white, they're perceived as being of "limited athletic ability" or "making the most out of the least."

It's a joke.

absolutley no chance of us getting a lottery pick in the 2014 draft, a top young PG prospect, and Hayward for just Rondo and Lee.
