Why do we people automatically think Rondo is going to "expect and get" a max contract?

because as Celtics fans, we assume he will be deserving of one by the time his current contract his up. i mean, i'm sure you've read all the points by now: stuff like "one of the top 5 PGs in this league", "makes everybody better", "dominates and controls the game like no other", "best player on a championship team", "best passer in the league", etc. etc.

None of which have occurred to date, or are likely to occur soon.

i think we can give him "makes role players better" at the very least and he is definitely in the conversation for "best passer" :)

Clearly most of it has, just as clearly most of the "the team's better without Rondo" crowd were unable to recognize it. Go back and watch the 2012 playoffs and the 2013 playoffs and figure out what the difference is. If it helps, consider that Rondo scored or assisted a higher percentage of his team's points than any player in the league in the 2012 playoffs. If your explanation doesn't start with the dramatic difference Rondo has on our offense then I'm thankful that you have nothing to do with the Celt's personnel moves.

Going back to the original thought on this thread, I've gone over to some Pistons chat rooms and can't find one single person who would do Drummond for Rondo straight up.

This is great.

You know what would be cool?  An SBNation function that would automatically post all trade proposals to the boards of both teams involved.

I suspect that fans of all teams involved would really benefit from the diversity in perspective.

It would have to be moderated pretty heavily though, probably. Haha.

Cool in a "lowest common denominator" kind of way.

It would probably get ugly, I agree. Maybe it's not practical.

So... we are getting a Detroit offer consisting in Knight + expiring contracts, in my opinion that's the definition of selling low.

Of course Rondo's contract is a bargain, but if you're trading Rondo right now, you're selling him low, because teams are factoring in the injury/rehab risk.

On the other hand, if you wait until next february-june, you may have the chance to extend Rondo or trade him after his trade value is restored.

People wanting to trade him and/or Green now are selling low, because their value in 6-9 months could be way higher. I can't understand that interest in selling them right now for the sake of tanking, but I guess we all are right in our minds.

As for right value of a healthy Rondo, you don't trade the best PG in the playoffs for a young prospect. You need to get multiple prospects and picks. If Detroit wants Rondo, they should add Drummond, Knight AND a future (2016) pick. Danny is adquiring assets and working roster flexibility for a big move next summer, and I hope he can bring a couple All Stars to our team to play with Rondo and Green.
